Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Plant Operator located at Beatrice Power Station in Beatrice, Nebraska.  Position closes December 16, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. Central Time. 

 

This position will report to the Beatrice Operations & Maintenance Manager.

Position Summary

The Plant Operator will operate the Combined Cycle Plant in a safe, environmentally responsible, and efficient manner in accordance with all instructions and procedures. The plant operator will also assist in preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance completion.

Education, Training and Experience

Incumbent must be recommended based on the Power Plant Operator Selection System (POSS) results.

Associates degree in a related technical field OR high school/GED and four years of experience as described below:
-Prior experience in the power industry is required. 
-Prior experience with combustion turbines is desirable. 
-Prior experience with combined cycle plants is desirable. 
-Prior experience in the mechanical or electrical field is desirable. 
-Prior experience with computerized maintenance management systems is desirable. 

Licenses and/or Certifications

Maintain NPPD Switchman Certification. Certification must be obtained within 12 months of assuming operator position.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Safe, efficient operation of the combined cycle plant.  Includes safe and efficient operation of combustion turbine, steam turbine/generator, HRSG, and associated system controls. 
The plant operator will be responsible for operating and maintaining: 
· Combustion turbines 
· Steam Turbines 
· Heat Recovery Steam Generators 
· Cooling tower and circulating water systems 
· Continuous emissions monitoring systems 
· Distributed Control Systems 
· Other Balance of Plant Systems 
 

Maintain plant emissions and chemistry within allowed limits and established parameters.

Train other personnel in plant operations. 

Create, maintain, review, and provide input concerning plant safety, maintenance, and operating procedures. Direct the work activities of others as required, to operate and maintain the plant. 

Perform switching operations in the Beatrice Power Station switchyard as directed and maintain certification as required.  Perform maintenance on all systems.  The Operator will be expected to perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range.  Successful applicants will be provided more information regarding the incentive program at the time of an interview.

 

Pay Grade - 13

Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: $39.50  - $49.38

 

Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska)  Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
