Armed Security Officer

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for 7 Temporary Armed Security Officers located at Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville.  Temporary Security Officers will work on average 40 hours per week.  Temporary positions are not eligible for benefits.  This position requires rotating shift work (6:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. - 6:00 a.m.) These positions have the potential to become full-time positions within a year.  Positions close at midnight on 6/25/19. These positions will report to the Security Operations Supervisor.

Position Summary

The Armed Security Officers provide protection of Cooper Nuclear Station (CNS) facilities against external and internal threats by well trained adversaries. Officers utilize prescribed policies and procedures to implement the CNS Security Plan for the purpose of preventing radiological sabotage.

Education, Training and Experience

High School Diploma or a GED is required.

Must be a minimum of 21 years of age and meet General Criteria for Security Personnel Requirements per 10 CFR Part 73 Appendix B.  This includes Annual Security Officer rqualification and fire arms requalification on a trimester frequency .

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Demonstrate mental alertness and the capability to exercise good judgment, implement instructions, assimilate assigned security tasks, and possess the acuity of senses and ability of expression sufficient to permit accurate communication by written, spoken, audible, visible, or other signals required by assigned job duties.

Demonstrate no emotional instability that would interfere with the effective performance of assigned security job duties.

Perform routine foot patrols and vehicle patrols as required.

Perform armed escort duties.

Perform routine duties while carrying a rifle.

Perform personnel, vehicle, and material searches as required by procedures, the Training Qualification Plan, and the Physical Security Plan.

Respond to alarm activations.

Perform compensatory and contingency duties in accordance with the Physical Security Plan.

Perform fire watch and fire patrol duties.

Officers are expected to be at their workstation at their designated starting time and to adhere to the required working hours. Timely arrival at work is required to avoid disruption of shift turnover and to support the safe operations and licensing requirements for CNS.

Must be willing and able to work rotating shift schedule. This will include weekends, holidays and back shifts.

Accountable for other duties as assigned.

May be assigned Team Safety Representative duties.

May be assigned to the Site Safety Team

May be assigned Continuous Improvement Coordinator Duties.

Salary Information: $20.98  Hourly 

Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska)  Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
