Position Summary

 

Drafting Technician I or II: 

Creates and revises both current and aged structural, mechanical, civil, and electrical technical design drawings. Incumbent works independently directly with Engineering at the facility(ies) they report and/or support. Incumbent obtains facility information through inspections and ensures drawings accurately reflect facility infrastructure and is responsible for creating and revising drawings utilizing CAD applications, 3D modeling, scanning, personal computers, and plotters. Incumbent comprehends technical mark-ups and a variety of computer application requirements and accurately applies designs to standard drawing layouts and metadata to computer applications. Incumbent provides miscellaneous technical support to engineering and others.

 

Drafting Technician II:  

In addition, the Drafting Technician II will mentor the Level I Drafting Technician(s) and act as a liaison between General Office (GO) Drafting and plant/field engineering in maintaining Drafting standards, verifying mark ups, and coordinating overall schedules and requirements for drafting services.

Education, Training and Experience

 

Drafting Technician I:

Associates degree in technical drafting or an engineering technology and AutoCAD software proficiency/experience (preferred)    OR    High school diploma/GED with military training in technical drafting or an engineering technology and two years' experience using AutoCAD software and applying facility information to technical drawings.

 

Drafting Technician II:  

Associates degree in technical drafting or an engineering technology. Minimum of three years' experience utilizing AutoCAD and applying facility information to technical drawings   OR   High school diploma or GED with military training in technical drafting or an engineering technology plus 5 years' experience using AutoCAD software and applying facility information to technical drawings. Previous as-building experience is preferred.

Licenses and/or Certifications

May require badging for CNS. May require NERC access.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

 

Drafting Technician I or II:

  • Create various types of drawings that clearly and thoroughly represent the engineer's design of facility improvements and changes. Revise various types of drawings from mark-ups to reflect changes to facilities.
  • Obtain facility information through inspections and measurements. Ensure drawings accurately reflect facility infrastructure.
  • Operate equipment/software necessary to perform assigned duties (printers, plotters, scanners, 3D scanners, various CAD/3D Modeling related software and AutoCAD).
  • The ability to read, understand, and follow procedures without error.

 

Drafting Technician II:

  • Create and revise a variety of drawings of high complexity. Team with engineering to design facility changes. Mentor Drafting Technician I in work.
  • Mentor Drafting Technician I in work. Solid knowledge of the assigned work facility and its infrastructure.
  • Enhanced knowledge of technical software and equipment with ability to teach team members and customers in these operations.
  • Perform as liaison between GO Drafting and plant/field engineering in maintaining Drafting standards, verifying mark ups and coordinating overall schedules and requirements for drafting services.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range.  Successful applicants will be provided more information regarding the incentive program at the time of an interview.

 

Drafting Technician I - Pay Grade - 10 Monthly  Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: $4,983.00  - $6,229.00

Drafting Technician II - Pay Grade - 11 Monthly  Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: $5,580.00  - $6,975.00

 

Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska)  Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.

Retirement Savings

NPPD employees may participate in two retirement plan options – a 401(k) plan and a 457(b) plan. Both plans allow for pre-tax or Roth contributions. After the first six months of employment, the 401(k) plan includes a generous matching contribution from NPPD. The five-year vesting period begins on an employee’s hire date. Our retired employees are eligible for retiree healthcare benefits as well as a life benefit paid out to designated beneficiaries upon their passing.
