Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Engineer I - V - CNS located at Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville, Nebraska.  Position closes June 30, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time or until filled. 

 

Position Summary

Serves as a key liaison between all Cooper Nuclear Station (CNS) Engineering groups and the site work management process, including refueling outage preparation and execution. This role represents CNS Engineering at various cross-functional meetings and ensures that engineering deliverables are completed in alignment with T-week schedules and outage milestones.

 

Independently performs engineering responsibilities, including trending and monitoring equipment performance; evaluating, selecting, and applying established engineering principles, procedures, and criteria; and developing recommendations for maintenance, replacement, or modification of equipment. Assignments typically involve engineering analysis, problem-solving, and providing technical support to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of station assets. Collaborates effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including field personnel, technicians, and other engineers.

 

This position may require assignment to the Emergency Response Organization (ERO). Individuals in this role must be capable of reporting to the station and fulfilling assigned emergency response duties within 45 minutes of notification, as a condition of continued employment.

 

Engineer levels (I through V) are part of a defined career progression and are assigned based on qualifications and approval by management. Engineering roles are governed by the NPPD Nuclear Engineering Career Path framework.

 

Assignments are structured to build foundational knowledge of professional engineering practices within the electric utility industry, while also developing effective communication skills with internal and external stakeholders.

Education, Training and Experience

Bachelor of Science in Engineering from ABET accredited school (Electrical Engineering preferred).

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Performs tasks of limited and specific scope under the direction of experienced personnel.

 

Applies standard engineering practices and techniques, utilizing prescribed methods in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks.

 

Judgment is required on details of work such as correlating data and recognizing discrepancies in results. 

 

Communicates with customers and suppliers as directed by supervision.

 

Engineering Studies - Activities and associated skills which are required to analyze the technical and economic feasibility of new construction projects, modifications to existing systems or equipment, or changes in operation or maintenance of existing systems or equipment.

 

Modification or New Design/Construction Projects - Activities and associated skills which are required to design and implement new construction projects or modifications to existing equipment or systems.

 

Operations and Maintenance Support - Activities and associated skills which are required to provide technical support to the operation and maintenance of existing equipment or systems.

 

Customer Relations - Activities and associated skills which are required to support the customers' business needs.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (Continued)

Ensure all CNS engineering groups complete assigned tasks in support of the T-work schedule and refuel outage milestones.

 

Communicate to the site the status of all CNS engineering group's tasks associated with support of the T-work schedule and refuel outage milestones.

 

Monitor and coordinate important field work activities i.e. limiting conditions of operation (LCO's).

 

Recognize process barriers and declining performance trends in all CNS engineering groups with respect to the work management process and implement process improvements or other initiatives to improve engineering performance.

 

Manage developing backlogs/challenges to scheduled work activities that are due to CNS engineering performance.

 

Experience with Microsoft Office and SAP.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range.  Successful applicants will be provided more information regarding the incentive program at the time of an interview.

 

Pay Grade and Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: 

Engineer Level I: Exempt Pay Grade 12: $6,837 - $8,636 per month

Engineer Level II: Exempt Pay Grade 13: $7,668 - $9,686 per month

Engineer Level III: Exempt Pay Grade 14: $8,720 - $11,231 per month

Engineer Level IV: Exempt Pay Grade 15: $10,006 - $12,887 per month

Engineer Level V: Exempt Pay Grade 16: $11,480 - $14,785 per month

 

Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska)  Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.

Retirement Savings

NPPD employees may participate in two retirement plan options – a 401(k) plan and a 457(b) plan. Both plans allow for pre-tax or Roth contributions. After the first six months of employment, the 401(k) plan includes a generous matching contribution from NPPD. The five-year vesting period begins on an employee’s hire date.
