Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Engineer II - CNS (Mechanical or Electrical) located at Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville, Nebraska. Position closes January 31, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time or until filled.
Position Summary
Note: Level I to Level V Engineer is considered a progression and is approved by the appropriate manager. Engineering positions are managed under the NPPD Nuclear Engineering Career Path document.
Assignments are designed to develop general knowledge of professional engineering practice in the electric utility industry and introduce customer/supplier communication skills.
Education, Training and Experience
Degree in Engineering (ABET Accredited) or Professional Engineering License.
2 years experience or MS or PH.D Degree in Engineering
Good communication skills
Completed Initial ESP training or entry into ESP program if entering with a MS/Ph.D. in Engineering
Ability to travel and be available for work on short notice as needed
PC knowledge
Must be qualified to ANSI N-18.1-1971 or NA if entering with a MS/Ph.D in Engineering

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs tasks of limited and specific scope under the direction of experienced personnel.
Applies standard engineering practices and techniques, utilizing prescribed methods in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks.
Judgment is required on details of work such as correlating data and recognizing discrepancies in results.
Communicates with customers and suppliers as directed by supervision.
Engineering Studies - Activities and associated skills which are required to analyze the technical and economic feasibility of new construction projects, modifications to existing systems or equipment, or changes in operation or maintenance of existing systems or equipment.
Modification or New Design/Construction Projects - Activities and associated skills which are required to design and implement new construction projects or modifications to existing equipment or systems.
Operations and Maintenance Support - Activities and associated skills which are required to provide technical support to the operation and maintenance of existing equipment or systems.
Customer Relations - Activities and associated skills which are required to support the customers' business needs.
Accountable for other duties as assigned.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range. Successful applicants will be provided more information regarding the incentive program at the time of an interview.
Engineer I - Exempt pay grade 12: $6,837 - $8,636 Monthly
Engineer II - Exempt pay grade 13: $7,668 - $9,686 Monthly
Engineer III - Exempt pay grade 14: $8,720 - $11,231 Monthly
Engineer IV - Exempt pay grade 15: $10,006 - $12,887 Monthly
Engineer V - Exempt pay grade 16: $11,480 - $14,785 Monthly
Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska) Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
