Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Engineer III-V located at Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville.  Position closes January 21, 2022 at 11:59 Central Time.  This position will report to Engineering Code Programs Supervisor.

Position Summary

Program engineering position ensures the design and licensing basis of the reactor pressure vessel and attached piping is maintained by implementing the applicable programmatic requirements for the inspection, evaluation, repair, and maintenance of the CNS Vessel Internals Program.   As the program engineer, you are responsible for implementing the materials degradation management plan for monitoring the material condition applicable to the reactor coolant system, reactor vessel internals, and associated non-destructive examination (NDE) activities. 


Note:  Level I to Level V Engineer is considered a progression and is approved by the appropriate manager.  Engineering positions are managed under the NPPD Nuclear Engineering Career Path document. 


Education, Training and Experience

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Nuclear, Civil, or Material Engineering from an ABET accredited school 

Licenses and/or Certifications

Professional Engineers License preferred

SRO license preferred 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Implements and maintains the CNS Vessel Internals Program by ensuring all regulatory, ASME, and BWRVIP requirements associated with the reactor pressure vessel and vessel internals are managed to meet, structural, leakage, and functional performance objectives. 

Engages with the industry by participation in materials management groups (i.e., ASME, NDE, and BWRVIP) in order to evaluate current business and strategic plans with the appropriate focus on material issues.  

Manages the Integrated Surveillance Program associated with the RPV surveillance specimens and fluence predictions based on testing and subsequently evaluates changes to the plant Pressure-Temperature curves on a periodic basis. 

Manages the RPV fatigue monitoring program to evaluate the impact of operational plant transients to design basis fatigue margins associated with the RPV, RPV internals, and Torus. The intent is to ensure the applicable design basis margins for fatigue are met by evaluating plant transients on a periodic basis. 

Schedules required inspections in accordance with BWRVIP and ASME Section XI requirements and performs project manager functions for the procurement and administration of contract NDE services during refueling outages. Coordinate’s inspection activities with refueling activities as needed to support station goals for safety, dose, cost, and schedule.  

Qualification as a BWRVIP engineer requires certification to TQD 0527, ISI Engineer, at a minimum, due to the overlapping responsibilities with the Inservice Inspection (ISI) engineer. 

Responsible for establishing long and short range plans for funding to management of budgetary requirements to support inspection activities implemented during refueling outages as well as funding

Salary Range: 


Engineer Level III-Exempt pay grade 14: $7,516-$9,679 Monthly
Engineer Level IV-Exempt pay grade 15: $8,624-$11,107 Monthly

Engineer Level  V-Exempt pay grade 16: $9,894-$12,743 Monthly


Travel Required:   Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
