Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for an Electrical or Mechanical Engineer located at Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville. Position closes March 15, 2020 or until positions are filled with a qualfied candidate.

 

Position Summary

Note:  Level I to Level V Engineer is considered a progression and is approved by the appropriate manager.  Engineering positions are managed under the NPPD Nuclear Engineering Career Path document. 

This position may be assigned to a position within the Emergency Response Organization (ERO) that requires response to the station when an emergency is declared.  Assignment to one of these positions and a condition of continued employment will be the ability to arrive at the station to perform ERO responsibilities within 45 minutes of notification of an emergency.

Education, Training and Experience

Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (ABET Accredited) or Professional Engineering License. 

Good communication skills

PC knowledge

Entry into the Nuclear Engineering Support Training Program (ESP)

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Be recognized as the system expert by maintaining knowledge of assigned system, system status, and its associated Design and Licensing Bases.

 

Verify the Design Bases of the system is being preserved/maintained by reviewing and/or observing surveillance tests and their results, field work and post-maintenance testing, and modification activities.
 

Monitor and trend system performance to maintain and improve system availability, reliability, and operational performance.  Investigate deteriorating system performance to identify cause for declining trends.

Perform routine, periodic walkdowns of the system to maintain current awareness of system condition, configuration, and performance.

 

Identify and set priorities for system maintenance and modifications.
 

Develop and maintain a long-range plan for each system and develop comprehensive plans to facilitate completion of complex system improvements.  This includes generation of appropriate paperwork to request funding and resources for planning purposes.
 

Work with system designees from Operations and Maintenance to understand the needs of craft personnel and Station Operators in maintaining system reliability.

 

Review system maintenance effectiveness, system unavailability, and Maintenance Preventable Functional Failures (MPFFs), and provide direction and input for needed improvements through the Maintenance Rule Program to meet CNS goals and industry performance.

 

Assist operations in determining system and component operability by providing technical basis for Operability Evaluations (OEs)and Operability Determinations (OD).

 

Review and initiate corrective action based upon information from internal investigations and industry sources.

 

Provide technical assistance to Licensing for formal responses to the USNRC and formal notifications.

 

Maintain a system notebook to facilitate system evaluations and retrievability of supporting design and licensing bases.  Periodically review documents that describe the current design configuration to assure that the systems are accurately described and knowledge of the systems is maintained.

Salary Information: 

Engineer Level I-Exempt pay grade 12: $5,777-$7,297 Monthly

Engineer Level II-Exempt pay grade 13: $6,480-$8,184 Monthly

Engineer Level III-Exempt pay grade 14: $7,368-$9,490 Monthly

Engineer Level IV-Exempt pay grade 15: $8,455-$10,889 Monthly

Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska)  Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
