Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Instrument & Control Technician III located at Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville, Nebraska. Position closes November 14, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time.
Position Summary
This position is responsible to perform calibrations, surveillance testing, and maintenance of Cooper Nuclear Station (CNS) Instrumentation and Control systems and equipment to ensure the health and safety of the public and the around-the-clock efficient operation of CNS. The work will be completed in compliance with regulatory requirements and will not cause reactor trips, emergency system initiations, or equipment damage.
This position may be assigned to a position within the Emergency Response Organization (ERO) that requires response to the station when an emergency is declared. Assignment to one of these positions and a condition of continued employment will be the ability to arrive at the station to perform ERO responsibilities within 45 minutes of notification of an emergency.
Education, Training and Experience
Requirement Level I, II & III: Incumbent must be recommended based on the Power Plant Maintenance Positions Selection System (MASS) results.
Two-year Associates Degree (or military equivalent) in an electronics field (or equivalent military training).
Personnel will be required to pass a physical to wear respirator protective equipment and be Self-contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) qualified.
Required to meet requirements in ANSI N-18.1-1971. (Documentation of qualifications is a condition of employment).
Prior Related Experience:
Level III
Meet Education Requirements noted above
Level II
Minimum of 2 years of related I&C experience with at least 1 year experience as an I&C Technician in a nuclear power plant. Must meet I&C Technician III and I&C Technician II training requirements/qualifications.
Level I
Minimum of 3 years of related I&C experience with at least 2 years’ experience as I&C Technician in a nuclear power plant. Must meet I&C Technician III, I&C Technician II, and I&C Technician I training requirements/qualifications.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Level III
Complete the I&C Training Program as required to achieve and demonstrate the knowledge and skill level needed to perform I&C technician level III duties.
Perform I&C technician III calibration, testing, preventative and corrective maintenance. Provide 24 hour coverage as needed to support Cooper Nuclear Station.
Practice strict adherence to all safety practices and radiological safety practices for the work being performed, as well as completing the work accurately and in a timely manner.
Conduct field walk-downs and research of system/component operation as necessary to analyze procedure development/revision and corrective/preventive maintenance.
Maintain qualification as an I&C Technician III which includes attending I&C continuing training. Stay current with applicable regulatory changes to ensure regulatory compliance and ensure compliance with INPO requirements
Level II
Complete the I&C Technician II Training Program as required to achieve and demonstrate the knowledge and skill level needed to perform I&C technician level II duties. Perform Functions of Level II technician as well as:
Perform high risk calibration, testing, preventative, and corrective maintenance.
Maintain qualification as an I&C Technician II which included attending I&C continuing training.
Diagnose instrument and control problems to effectively troubleshoot and repair I&C equipment without disrupting plant operation on an emergent basis.
Level I
Complete the I&C Technician I Training Program as required to achieve and demonstrate the knowledge and skill level needed to perform I&C technician level I duties. In addition, complete the duties & responsibilites of Level II and III technician.
Lead in the performance of the calibration, testing, and repair of mechanical, pneumatic, electronic instruments, their respective control systems, and computer, security and meteorological systems.
Perform high risk surveillance and maintenance procedures accurately and in a timely manner.
Maintain qualification as an I&C Technician I which includes attending I&C continuing training. Stay In addition, write, review, and revise I&C training Lesson Plans as assigned
Accountable for other duties as assigned.

Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range:
Level III Technician $37.39 - $39.79 non-exempt hourly
Level II Technician $43.41 - $47.03 non-exempt hourly
Level I Technician $50.65 - $55.92 non-exempt hourly
Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska) Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
