Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Instrument & Control Technician III located at Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville, Nebraska.  Position closes March 20, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time. 

 

Position Summary

This position is responsible to perform calibrations, surveillance testing, and maintenance of Cooper Nuclear Station (CNS) Instrumentation and Control systems and equipment to ensure the health and safety of the public and the around-the-clock efficient operation of CNS. The work will be completed in compliance with regulatory requirements and will not cause reactor trips, emergency system initiations, or equipment damage.

This position may be assigned to a position within the Emergency Response Organization (ERO) that requires response to the station when an emergency is declared. Assignment to one of these positions and a condition of continued employment will be the ability to arrive at the station to perform ERO responsibilities within 45 minutes of notification of an emergency.

Education, Training and Experience

Requirement: Incumbent must be recommended based on the power plant Maintenance Positions Selection System (MASS) results.

Two-year associates degree (or military equivalent) in an electronics field (or equivalent military training).

Personnel will be required to pass a physical to wear respirator protective equipment and be Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) qualified.

Required to meet requirements in American National Standards Institute (ANSI) N-18.1-1971. (Documentation of qualifications is a condition of employment.)

Level II

Minimum of 2 years of related I&C experience with at least 1 year experience as an I&C Technician in a nuclear power plant. Must meet I&C Technician III and I&C Technician II training requirements/qualifications.

Level I

Minimum of 3 years of related I&C experience with at least 2 years’ experience as I&C Technician in a nuclear power plant.

Must meet I&C Technician III, I&C Technician II, and I&C Technician I training requirements/qualifications.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Complete the Instrument and Control (I&C) Training Program as required to achieve and demonstrate the knowledge and skill level needed to perform I&C Technician Level III duties.

Perform I&C Technician III calibration, testing, preventative and corrective maintenance. Provide 24-hour coverage as needed to support CNS.

Practice strict adherence to all safety practices and radiological safety practices for the work being performed, as well as completing the work accurately and in a timely manner.

Conduct field walk-downs and research of system/component operation as necessary to analyze procedure development/revision and corrective/preventive maintenance.

Maintain qualification as an I&C Technician III which includes attending I&C continuing training. Stay current with applicable regulatory changes to ensure regulatory compliance and ensure compliance with Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) requirements.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range.  Successful applicants will be provided more information regarding the incentive program at the time of an interview.

Level III - Non Exempt Pay Grade 11 $39.67/hour to $42.20/hour

Level II -  Non Exempt Pay Grade 13 $46.07/hour to $49.89/hour

Level I -   Non Exempt Pay Grade 14 $53.76/hour to $59.34/hour

 

Travel Required: Up to 25% (With frequent overnight stays, more than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska)  Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
