Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Maintenance Welding Coordinator located at Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville, Nebraska.  Position closes May 6, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time. 

 

Position Summary

The Maintenance Welding Coordinator is considered the station matter expert (SME) on welding and welding activities, nondestructive examination (NDE) of welds, weld code interpretation.  NDE includes radiography (RT) film interpretation, penetrant testing (PT), magnetic particle (MT) for information use at the station.  This also includes code interpretation as it pertains to the welding program and work activities.  Furter responsibilities include planning, leading, organizing and implementing welding related activities for scheduled work and outages.

The Maintenance Welding Coordinator is responsible to coordinate and ensure all NPPD and supplemental personnel performing welding activities have successfully completed and passed the station weld test and adhere to CNS Standards, Policies & Procedures.  Further responsibilities include creating and maintaining welder performance qualifications (WPQ), performance qualification records (PQR), and welding procedure specifications (WPS) to ensure the station is aligned with the code.

Education, Training and Experience

Four-year technical degree in a mechanical discipline and 4 years of related welding experience OR two-year technical college graduate (related area) with 6 years of experience OR successful completion of military schooling in mechanical maintenance with 6 years maintenance experience OR 10 years welding or maintenance experience, of which 6 years must be in a nuclear operating facility. Knowledge of construction and maintenance codes and standards (ASME Sect. XI, B31.1, B31.7, AWS D1.1).

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Coordinates nondestructive and ultrasonic exams in support of welding and maintenance activities for the station.  Ensures examinations are planned and executed in a timely manner to support work week and outage schedules, including emergent work activities. Monitors personnel and group effectiveness in achieving established goals. 

Oversees NDE inspectors' activities and reviews data to ensure that industry and CNS standards for examination quality are met.  Ensures all activities are performed within regulatory, code and procedural requirements.

Oversees vendor NDE activities and welding activities to ensure work is performed safely.

Review and approve vendor NDE and welding procedures for compliance with governing requirements.

Review outage contracts and activities including controls of inspection costs through maximization of staff productivity and tracking expenditures within budget parameters. 

Maintain technical proficiencies within the programs assigned.  Ensure that activities are performed in accordance with procedures and CNS work packages and instructions.

Review all onsite welding activities to ensure personnel qualifications meet required standards.

Provide administrative support for Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) and welding contracts owned by the Maintenance Department.

Provide welding oversight and certify personnel as appropriate.

Plan, coordinate and direct assigned projects to support on-line and outage maintenance activities.

Perform inspections of plant areas and work activities to ensure that personnel are in compliance with regulations, standards and procedures.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range.  Successful applicants will be provided more information regarding the incentive program at the time of an interview.

Pay Grade - 15 Monthly

Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: $8,888.00  - $11,333.00

 

Travel Required:   Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
