Mechanical Engineer I - V - CNS

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Mechanical Engineer I - V - CNS located at Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville.  Position closes October 17, 2021 at 11:59 Central Time. 

This position will report to Design Engineering Mechanical Engineering Supervisor.

Position Summary

Develop effective working relationship with maintenance, operations, and other engineering departments as required to implement timely and cost-effective solutions to plant issues.


Attend on-site and/or industry conferences & training to continue development of engineering fundamentals for application in the nuclear power industry.


Use and share operating experience from other plants and vendor to improve the reliability of the station.


This position may be assigned to a position within the Emergency Response Organization (ERO) that requires response to the station when an emergency is declared.  Assignment to one of these positions and a condition of continued employment will be the ability to arrive at the station to perform ERO responsibilities within 45 minutes of notification of an emergency.

Education, Training and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (ABET accredited) preferred

Other Requirements:

  •  Must be able to maintain a position on the CNS Emergency Response Organization ERO
  •  Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, primarily Excel and Word
  •  Intermediate analytical and problem-solving skills
  •  Strong time management, prioritization, and organization skills
  •  Proficient communication and interpersonal skills

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Maintain the station's design bases utilizing the station's configuration control process and corrective action process.


Maintain the station's design bases by analyzing and implementing configuration changes to implement timely and cost-effective solutions to stations problems.


Evaluate and implement solutions for assigned tasks to achieve continuous improvement in station performance and material conditions consistent with station safety, cost, and production goals.


Develop, maintain, and continuously improve design engineering capabilities that will support department and station goals through improved equipment and station performance.


Accountable for other duties as assigned.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth.  Pay will be determined based on background and experience.

Engineer   I, Exempt Pay Grade 12:  $5,893 to $6,978

Engineer  II, Exempt Pay Grade 13:  $6,609 to $7,826

Engineer III, Exempt Pay Grade 14:  $7,516 to $9,030

Engineer IV, Exempt Pay Grade 15:  $8,624 to $10,362

Engineer  V, Exempt Pay Grade 16:  $9,894 to $11,888


Travel Required: None  Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
