Non-Licensed Nuclear Plant Operator

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Non-Licensed Nuclear Plant Operator located at Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville.  Position closes July 10, 2019.

This position will report to Shift Manager/Operations.

Position Summary

Operate and monitor all electrical and mechanical plant equipment. Ensure that all equipment is operated safely and in a manner that will guarantee continuous operation even in the event of an abnormal or emergency situation.

 

During your employment, you will be assigned to positions within the Emergency Response Organization (ERO) that require response to the station when an emergency is declared. When you are assigned to one of these positions, a condition of continued employment will be your ability to arrive at the station to perform ERO responsibilities within 45 minutes of notification of an emergency.

 

Must be willing and able to work 12 hour rotating shift schedule.  This will include weekends, holidays and back shifts.

Education, Training and Experience

APPLICANTS CHOSEN FOR INTERVIEWS MUST PASS A POSS (Plant Operator Selection System) TEST & BE RECOMMENDED FOR NUCLEAR.

 

High school diploma and completion of the Navy Nuclear Program is preferred

OR

Associates degree or Bachelors degree in a technical area

OR

Previous commercial power plant experience

 

This position provides excellent opportunities for advancements.  Advancements are based on set criteria as outlined in the NLNPO Progression programs.

 

An employee selected to fill an entry level NLNPO Level III position will be enrolled in the NLNPO Program (Procedure TPP 204).
 

NLNPO III employee is eligible for a pay increase as defined in the Progression Program once they achieve the qualifications as a Shift Communicator and one building watch.
 

The first twelve months are a probationary period during which the individual must demonstrate the potential to become an NLNPO Level I. The probation will include a review of job performance and progress towards NLNPO qualification per TPP 204.
 

Action taken as the result of an employee’s failure to satisfactorily complete any of the probationary requirements will be at the discretion of the Operations Manager per approved CNS and NPPD processes.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Monitor and operate equipment assigned to Turbine Building, Reactor Building & Radwaste Building.

 

Perform refueling operations, maintenance activities, and testing during refueling outages.

 

Tag out equipment for maintenance and restore equipment to operations, perform surveillance testing of systems and equipment, and perform systems valve lineups.

 

Attend continuous Non-Licensed Nuclear Plant Operator requalification training and satisfactorily complete associated exams.

 

Respond to fires or fire drills as a fire brigade member or fire brigade leader.

 

Perform duties of the On-Shift Communicator during emergencies and drills.

 

Maintain qualification as a Fire Brigade, Hazmat Responder and Transmission Switchman.

 

Respond to abnormal or emergency conditions.

 

NLNPO III is a trainee position, and will only be learning and performing all the duties of this position profile under the direction of a Qualified NLNPO II or I.

 

Must be willing and able to work rotating shift schedule.  This will include weekends, holidays and back shifts.

Salary Information: $36.62-$46.25 Hourly 

Travel Required:   Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
