Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Nuclear Modifications Specialist located at Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville, Nebraska.  Position closes Tuesday, April 21, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time. 

 

Position Summary

This position is responsible for providing technical support to the Cooper Nuclear Station (CNS) Maintenance Department by developing/revising detailed integrated work schedules (online/outage), modifications work orders (online/outage), and select/schedule training for supplemental personnel to support modifications (online/outage). 

The Nuclear Modifications specialist performs this work to ensure that performance of the work by Maintenance/supplemental technicians will correctly repair/modify CNS systems and equipment, will be in compliance with regulatory requirements, and will not cause reactor trips, emergency system initiations, or equipment damage.  This position is also preferred to maintain applicable qualifications to support modification work in the field.

This position is located at Cooper Nuclear Station. Individuals will be assigned Emergency Response Organization responsibilities and must live within a 45-minute response time to the plant.

Education, Training and Experience

Certified Associate in Project Management/Construction Management plus three years related experience. OR

Associate degree in a related field plus five years of related experience OR

High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) plus ten years of related experience.

Prior Related Experience

Demonstrated proficiency with automated planning, scheduling and project management tools is preferred. Demonstrated leadership skills and overall integration of NPPD’s key enabling processes is preferred. Experience with major maintenance activities and cross discipline teams is preferred. Technical understanding of nuclear generation principles and operation.

Note: Other work experience or demonstrated performance indicating that the applicant has the skills and ability to perform the required duties may be substituted for the specific years of experience.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Develop complete detailed work packages with job hazard analyses for use by craft personnel to perform required maintenance/modifications.

When necessary perform work in the field and act in the position of Supervisor during absence of regular duty personnel.

Provide 24-hour coverage as needed to support CNS.

Serve as liaison and technical expert with engineering, training, and other departments (and/or vendors) to develop, coordinate, and implement training and station modification activities.

Advise and coach other maintenance personnel in the skills of planning and maintenance.

Act as a technical consultant to others, for maintenance activities in his/her area of expertise.

Develop work schedules and resource loads for supplemental/maintenance shop schedules, online, outages, and special projects.

Conduct field walk-downs and research of complex system/component operation as necessary to analyze system/component modification.

Maintain qualifications to support modification and attend continuing training. Stay current with applicable regulatory changes to ensure regulatory compliance and ensure compliance with Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) requirements.

Practice strict adherence to all safety practices for the work being proceduralized, performed, or planned.

Develop, implement, and coordinate on-the-job training (OJT) and Task Performance Evaluations (TPE) schedules for supplemental technicians.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range.  Successful applicants will be provided more information regarding the incentive program at the time of an interview.

Pay Grade - 14 Hourly

Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: $47.41  - $60.45

Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska)  Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.

Retirement Savings
