Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Organizational Development Specialist located at Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville, Nebraska. Position closes August 28th at 11:59 p.m. Central Time. 

This position will report to the Organizational Development Manager.

Position Summary

The Organizational Development Specialist is responsible for supporting employee talent development programs to expand teammates’ interpersonal and leadership skills at Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD). This role will continue to improve upon existing development programs and build new programs in support of providing employees with exciting careers with NPPD.  In alignment with other Human Resources efforts and acting as an employee development resource and change agent, this position provides opportunities to build a skilled and diverse workforce by supporting District leadership and talent development initiatives through quality leadership training, individual development plans, succession planning, web-based training programs and effective learning opportunities to close identified skill gaps while working with and facilitating cross-functional teams.  The Organizational Development Specialist will interface with, coach, and advise at all levels of the District including executives and senior management. This position will work closely with Human Resources and management staff to support the overall mission and future of NPPD and to address the future employment needs of a transitioning workforce. 

Education, Training and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in business, organizational development, education or related field.  5 years of work experience in adult education, training, organizational effectiveness, leadership and talent development, human resources, or related field required. 

A minimum of 3 years of experience in a leadership role is preferred. 

Experience in nuclear or utility industry preferred. 

 

Licenses and/or Certifications

Must obtain required training facilitation certifications within 6 months of position start date.


 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Seek and maintain qualifications for deployment of leadership and interpersonal skills training programs.  Stay current with updates and modifications of programs.  

Responsible for planning, developing, and implementing talent and leadership development programs and training to address the future employment needs of a transitioning workforce.


Collaborate with Human Resources to implement business initiatives as they relate to employee performance, retention, leadership development, and job satisfaction.


Analyze business structures, procedures, and processes to maximize the effectiveness of employees to achieve NPPD’s mission.
Interview personnel and facilitating targeted skills development initiatives.

Interview and advise leaders at all levels of the company as well as individual contributer in targeted skill development initiatives.


Optimize personnel utilization by increasing cross-functionality and interdepartmental cooperation.


Support leaders in creating quality individual development plans and provides insights for succession planning to maximize employee productivity performance, and engagement.


Ensure that knowledge and retention programs are being implemented thoroughly to reduce the vulnerability of losing talent from retirements or attrition.


Maintain current knowledge of trends in adult education, talent development, and skills assessment, assess their applicability within NPPD’s talent development programs, and champion their implementation.

Participate in industry training and development workgroups.  Coach and train new and existing leaders on leadership best practices. Advise leaders on potential training and development opportunities based on needs.  Provide team assimilation support to new leaders or current leaders with new teams.  Seek mentors for new leaders and individuals working on development, facilitate mentor kick off meetings, and monitor effectiveness of each mentor program.  Hold leaders accountable to complete succession planning, development planning and evaluation of development plans of individuals that report to them.  Coordinate and/or support nuclear specific, non-accredited leadership training programs, monitor, update and adhere to long range training plans.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range.  Successful applicants will be provided more information regarding the incentive program at the time of an interview.

 

Pay Grade - 13 Monthly

Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: $7,053.00  - $8,816.00

 

Travel Required: 25% to 50% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska)  Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.

Retirement Savings

NPPD employees may participate in two retirement plan options – a 401(k) plan and a 457(b) plan. Both plans allow for pre-tax or Roth contributions. After the first six months of employment, the 401(k) plan includes a generous matching contribution from NPPD. The five-year vesting period begins on an employee’s hire date. Our retired employees are eligible for retiree healthcare benefits as well as a life benefit paid out to designated beneficiaries upon their passing.
