Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Temporary Planner - CNS located at Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville.  Position closes December 7, 2021 at 11:59 Central Time. This is a temporary position not to exceed 12 months. Temporary positions are not eligible for benefits.


This position will report to the Planning Superintendent.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for the planning of all Mechanical, I&C and/or Electrical corrective and preventative maintenance work orders. Responsible for Modification planning, and all other online and outage work orders. This position must possess specialized technical skills and knowledge of CNS equipment and procedures to optimize plant maintenance activities, determine post work testing, request clearance orders,  and maintain correct configuration of the plant. Develop complete detailed work packages for use by craft personnel to perform required maintenance.  This position must interpret modifications that have little detail provided, and create instructions to install/implement the modification, determine parts needed, procedures needed and post work testing.

Ensure CNS equipment reliability is maintained by making sure the work orders are planned at a high level of quality and accuracy. Planning work orders.

Education, Training and Experience

Bachelors Degree in Engineering and a minimum of 2 years experience as described below (OR) Associate or Technical Degree in Electronics or Electrical/Mechanical discipline and a minimum of 4 years experience as described below (OR) High School Diploma/GED and a minimum of 8 years experience as described below.


Should have 8 years experience as a mechanic, electrician, or I&C Tech at a commercial operating nuclear station. Applicant shall be experienced in SAP and the integration of the system and the application of the master data within the system. Applicant shall have an in depth understanding of power plant equipment, materials and preventative maintenance.

Experience in mechanical, welding and/or project planning preferred.

Licenses and/or Certifications


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Defining the scope of the work in the Work Order.

Developing work instructions or specifying procedures to be used to conduct maintenance or repair activities.

Specifying safety considerations, required permits, special tools, technical references, and materials for the intended work.

Developing clearance order requests for operations.

Work with vendors, craft personnel, engineers and other NPPD personnel to develop bills of material for work packages and set aside that material for shop use.

Advise, direct, and coach other personnel in the skills of planning and maintenance.

Act as a technical consultant to others, for maintenance activities in his/her area of expertise.

Generating support work documents (e.g., WCL). Identifying material needs in support of work documents.

Identifying resources, labor estimates, and support groups.

Specifying Post-Maintenance Testing requirements for the scope of work performed.

Plan work orders within milestone due dates to support the online and outage schedules.

Maintain Planner qualifications to plan work orders in order to support the schedule.

Develop detailed corrective maintenance (CM) and preventative maintenance (PM) work plans with with cautions and warnings and operating experience as needed to ensure the work is completed safely, with dose as low as possible,  and efficiently. This includes task lists for PM maintenance plans.

Conduct field walk-downs as necessary to analyze corrective and preventive maintenance.

Enter and maintain data in work management plans and schedules assigning operations, components, and permits.
