Procurement Engineer

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Procurement Engineer located at Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville.  Position closes October 3, 2021 at 11:59 Central Time.   This position will report to Procurement Engineering & Configuration Management Supervisor.

Position Summary

Note:  Level I to Level V Engineer is considered a progression and is approved by the appropriate manager.  Engineering positions are managed under the NPPD Nuclear Engineering Career Path document. 

Intermediate level engineer responsible for independently evaluating, selecting and applying standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria while recommending equipment replacements and performing modifications. Typical assignments are in the areas of engineering, problem solving, and technical support for the optimum operation and maintenance of company assets. Participates on teams of field employees, technicians, engineers and other personnel.

This position may be assigned to a position within the Emergency Response Organization (ERO) that requires response to the station when an emergency is declared.  Assignment to one of these positions and a condition of continued employment will be the ability to arrive at the station to perform ERO responsibilities within 45 minutes of notification of an emergency.


Education, Training and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Nuclear, or Digital) (ABET accredited). A minimum of three years’ experience in nuclear procurement engineering is highly desired. Applicant should have familiarity with 10CFR50 App. B and 10CFR21. Individual should also have knowledge of instrument obsolescence, design equivalent changes (IP-ENG-001) and vendor qualification. Experience in vendor audits and/or Performance Based Supplemental Audit (PBSA) is also desirable.


Other Requirements:
* Must be able to maintain a position on the CNS Emergency Response Organization ERO
* Must be able to pass all phases of In-Processing including a background investigation, psychological screening, appropriate radiation worker/respiratory training and drug and alcohol screening.
* Physical capability to work in the plant (i.e. climb stairs, work in hot environment).
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, primarily Excel and Word
* Intermediate analytical and problem-solving skills
* Strong time management, prioritization, and organization skills
* Proficient communication and interpersonal skills
* Knowledge of nuclear systems and components is desired


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Perform engineering evaluations to determine that replacement components are suitable for use at Cooper Nuclear Station.


Evaluate parts to determine the nuclear safety function of the part.


Establish testing criteria to ensure that commercially purchased parts perform their nuclear safety function.  


Participate as a technical expert on audits of vendors to ensure that components are being made to meet the rigorous standards of the nuclear industry.


Act as a technical expert when interfacing with receipt inspection, purchasing, contracts, warehousing, work control and planning personnel in relationship to spare parts and replacement parts.


Interface with system and component engineers to determine replacement parts / components for obsolete items.


Should possess the ability to interface at all levels of management and co-workers, and strive to be a team player.

Monthly Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth.  Pay will be determined based on background and experience. 

Engineer I, Exempt Pay Grade 12:  $5,893 to $6,978

Engineer II, Exempt Pay Grade 13:  $6,609 to $7,826

Engineer III, Exempt Pay Grade 14:  $7,516 to $9,030

Engineer IV, Exempt Pay Grade 15:  $8,624 to $10,362

Engineer V, Exempt Pay Grade 16:  $9,894 to $11,888


Travel Required: None  Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
