Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Simulator Maintenance Specialist (I&C) II or I located at Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville, Nebraska.  Position closes 01/05/2025 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time. 

This position will report to the Simulator and Training Superintendent. 

Position Summary

The Simulator Maintenance Specialist is responsible for the maintenance and upgrade of instrumentation and control and hardware systems associated with the Cooper Nuclear Station (CNS) training simulator and its facilities to ensure a high degree of equipment reliability to support operator training. This position ensures the simulator meets applicable internal, industry and regulatory requirements associated with a nuclear power plant simulator.

The employee must be willing to work in a controlled environment associated with a nuclear power plant. The employee must also be willing to be on-call for support of the simulator including weekends, holidays and shift work. This individual will also be subject to the District's Fitness for Duty Program.

The primary duty of this position is to maintain and upgrade instrumentation and control and hardware systems associated with the CNS Training Simulator and its facilities to ensure a high degree of reliability, plant-specific siulator operational performance, and physical fidelity of the simulator to support the licensed operator training programs.

Education, Training and Experience

Simulator Maintenance Specialist II

Two-year Associate’s degree (or military equivalent) in electronics or a related technical field (or equivalent military training).

AND

Minimum of three years of experience as an I&C Technician (or related experience) in the industrial industry.

Simulator Maintenance Specialist I

Two-year Associate’s degree (or military equivalent) in electronics or a related technical field (or equivalent military training).

AND

Minimum of five years of related I&C experience (or related experience) with at least two years’ experience as I&C Technician and/or Simulator Maintenance Specialist in a nuclear power plant.

 

This position will be required to obtain and maintain the qualifications necessary to be qualified to support site specific I&C related activities regarding emergent and/or outage related work.

This position is required to have related experience in the following areas: (1) reading schematics, wiring diagrams, flowcharts and logic diagrams, (2) knowledge of digital electronics and peripheral hardware operation; (3) knowledge of electronic circuits, mechanical and electrical devices; (4) knowledge of standard and special tools and test equipment and; (5) knowledge of computer application software including word processing, databases and spreadsheets.

Experience in computer systems networking and computer-aided design software and in power plant instrumentation and controls or computer maintenance or equivalent is preferred.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The Simulator Maintenance Specialist provides immediate technical support to resolve simulator instrumentation and control and associated hardware failures that may have an adverse impact on the operator training programs.

Perform daily operational simulator readiness tests, inspections, calibrations and diagnostics on simulator and computer hardware systems.

Maintain accurate equipment history records of simulator equipment and computer system components.

Perform trend analyses on hardware failures and maintains adequate spare parts inventory.

Maintain drawings, schematics, specifications, manuals and catalogs associated with simulator hardware maintenance. 

Develops/implements simulator maintenance-related procedures/desk guides.

Design, assemble, configure, install and verify the correct operation of new simulator equipment and modifications according to drawings, specifications and procedures.

Simulator Maintenance Specialist II, Non-Exempt Pay Grade 13:  $41.70 to $59.26 Hourly

Simulator Maintenance Specialist I, Non-Exempt Pay Grade 14:  $47.42 to $69.27 Hourly

Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary listed in posting, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range.
