Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Building & Grounds Custodian located at Columbus General Office in Columbus, Nebraska. Position closes August 22, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. Central Time.
This position will report to the Facility Services Supervisor.
Position Summary
A building and grounds custodian works in both a team and individually to provide and support housekeeping activities associated with any NPPD facility when needed. Employees may need to travel to another NPPD facility to support business needs.
Education, Training and Experience
High school diploma or GED required. A valid Nebraska's driver license is required. Custodial seminars or training is preferred. Previous custodial/janitorial experience is preferred. Mechanical training and/or experience is preferred.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Maintain office spaces including dusting, vacuuming, cleaning windows and blinds, moving furniture and chairs, trash removal and recycling. Set up conference rooms as required.
Ensure building entryways are presentable including glass surfaces and walk-off carpet. Maintain common spaces including operation of various cleaning equipment to shampooing carpets, as well as wiping down walls and base boards. Clean stairwells and handrails, strip and wax tile floors and landings. Ensure breakrooms are tidy which includes wiping down ceramic tile, sinks, microwaves, and straightening furniture, and tables.
Clean and maintain the loading dock and receiving areas. Restrooms, locker rooms, and storage rooms will be cleaned daily. This will include mopping the tile floors, wiping down fixtures, and restocking paper supplies.
Maintain material supplies, including maintenance of SDS (safety data sheets) program.
Assist with snow removal, including weekend on-call schedule during inclement weather.
All duties listed above include providing services to the Nebraska Energy – Federal Credit Union as necessary.
Accountable for other duties as assigned.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range. Successful applicants will be provided more information regarding the incentive program at the time of an interview.
Pay Grade - 5
Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: $17.60 - $21.56
Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska) Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
