Delivery Engineer Intern OR COOP - Summer 2025

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Delivery Engineer Intern OR COOP - Summer 2025 located at Columbus General Office in Columbus, Nebraska.  Review of applications will begin on October 22.  The position closes November 30 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time or upon being filled.

 

The Engineering Coop or Intern will be working with the Delivery Engineer groups in Systems Protection and Controls and Automation.  

Position Summary

Nebraska Public Power District is looking for an electrical engineering student to work with and assist other experienced engineering staff in the System Protection, Controls & Automation Engineering Department.  The Coop Engineer will work the 2025 summer/fall session (mid-May through December 2025) and the Engineer Intern will work through the 2025 summer session (May through July/August 2025).

 

The work location is Columbus, Nebraska. At a minimum, the student must be finishing their sophomore year of college. 

 

NOTE: Co-op/intern position is available to undergraduate students only.

Education, Training and Experience

The student must be pursuing an electrical engineering degree from an accredited college/university. At a minimum, the student must be finishing their sophomore year of college. The Co-op Engineer will work the 2025 summer/fall session (mid-May through December 2025) and the Engineer Intern will work through the 2025 summer session (May through July/August 2025).

Licenses and/or Certifications

Not applicable. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Protection duties may include assisting with specifying appropriate protection schemes, making relay recommendations, performing calculations to support relay settings, developing trip-checking procedures, calculating ground potential rise, calculating available fault current, locating faults, analyzing system disturbances, and operational support.

 

Controls and Automation duties may include assisting with automated substations, Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programming, Human Machine Interface (HMI) development and programming, intra-substation communication and networking, control panels, electrical schematics and wiring diagrams, equipment procurement, startup, and operations support.

Accountable for other duties as assigned.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range.  Successful applicants will be provided more information regarding the incentive program at the time of an interview.


Engineer Intern/Co-op - Sophomore    $24.17 per hour


Engineer Intern/Co-op - Junior    $26.03 per hour


Engineer Intern/Co-op - Senior    $27.89 per hour

Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska)  Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
