Position Summary

 

Nebraska Public Power District is looking for an Electrical, Mechanical, Structural, Architectural, or Civil drafting student to work with and assist other experienced drafting staff in the Drafting Department at the Columbus General Office. The Drafting department at NPPD is responsible for creating and revising drawings of low to moderate complexity utilizing CAD applications (AutoCAD and or 3D drafting software), personal computers, and plotters.  Applicants will possess an ability to comprehend technical mark-ups, engineering data, and a variety of computer application requirements, and will accurately apply designs to standard drawing layouts and metadata to computer applications. 

Education, Training and Experience

 

The intern must be enrolled in an accredited two-year or four-year college/university carrying a minimum of 12 semester units/credits or 8 quarter units with freshman, sophomore, junior or senior standing with a desire to pursue a career in the field of drafting.  Incumbent must have successfully completed the first semester of college in the civil, structural, mechanical, architectural or in a related Drafting/Technical field preferably utilizing AutoCAD and or 3D Drafting software.

Licenses and/or Certifications

 

None required.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

 

Create and revise drawings utilizing Computer-Aided Design (CAD) applications (AutoCAD or 3D drafting software), personal computers, engravers and plotters. Comprehend technical mark-ups, engineering data, and a variety of computer application requirements. Accurately apply designs to standard drawing layouts and metadata to computer applications. Provide support for CAD System Technical Analyst as needed.

 

Research drawing information, vendor and material resources within and outside NPPD to acquire accurate drawing information. Obtain and record facility information through facility inspections. Ensure drawings accurately reflect facility infrastructure. Assist the Drafting Structural/Civil Group upon request.

Salary Information - $17.63 - $20.35 per hour (based on college program completion level)

 

Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska)  Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.

Salary

Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary listed in posting, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range.

Retirement Savings

NPPD employees may participate in two retirement plan options – a 401(k) plan and a 457(b) plan. Both plans allow for pre-tax or Roth contributions. After the first six months of employment, the 401(k) plan includes a generous matching contribution from NPPD. The five-year vesting period begins on an employee’s hire date. Our retired employees are eligible for retiree healthcare benefits as well as a life benefit paid out to designated beneficiaries upon their passing.
