Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Engineering Intern - Sub Transmission Planning Summer 2027 located at Columbus General Office in Columbus, Nebraska. Position closes at 11:59 p.m. Central Time.
This position will report to the Sub-Transmission Planning Supervisor.
Position Summary
Nebraska Public Power District is looking for an electrical engineering student to work with and assist other experienced engineering staff in the Distribution and Sub Transmission Engineering Department. The Engineer Intern will work through the 2027 summer session (May through August 2027).
Education, Training and Experience
The student must be pursuing an electrical engineering degree from an accredited college/university. At a minimum, the student must be finishing their sophomore year of college. The Engineer Intern will work through the 2027 summer session (May through August 2027).

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Sub transmission planning job duties may include the following: Evaluate impact of customer owned generation sites and new proposed customer loads. Utilizing advanced system modeling software (Synergi), the engineering intern will evaluate system limits and power quality requirements to provide system upgrade and protection recommendations working with the operations, asset health, metering, and protection teams. Advanced duties would include enhancing existing tools and presenting modelled results to customers.
Accountable for other duties as assigned.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range. Successful applicants will be provided more information regarding the incentive program at the time of an interview.
Pay Grade - 99 Hourly
Engineering Intern - Junior - $27.61/hour
Engineering Intern - Senior - 29.58/hour
Interns eligible for $1000.00 housing stipend.
Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska) Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
