Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Engineering Manager - Delivery located at the Columbus General Office in Columbus, NE, the Norfolk Operations Center in Norfolk, NE, the York Operations Center in York, NE or the Kearney Operations Center in Kearney, NE. Position closes January 1, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time.
This position will report to the Vice President Energy Delivery.
Position Summary
The purpose of this position is to provide counsel, direction and oversight for all engineering activities for the Delivery business unit. Ensures common approaches are followed for critical engineering functions and the various related work products reflect consistently high quality. This includes NERC Cyber Infrastructure Protection (CIP) implementation and Bulk Electric System (BES) reliability. In this capacity, the Engineering Manager will perform the responsible manager role for these standards and coordinate the efforts of the responsible individuals as required. Provides lateral integration of support for cross-cutting issues and opportunities affecting assets in all of the Delivery business unit areas. Finally, the Engineering Manager may also provide support as needed to manage special projects.
Education, Training and Experience
Bachelor of science degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited university or college. (Electrical engineering preferred with emphasis in power systems.)
A minimum of 15 years of professional-level technical experience in energy delivery is required. The total experience requirement shall include 10 years of supervisory/management responsibility. Other work experience or demonstrated performance indicating that the applicant has the skills and ability to perform the required duties of the position may be substituted in lieu of specific years of experience.
Licenses and/or Certifications
Registration as a Professional Engineer in Nebraska is required. Project Management Institute certification as a Project Management Professional is desired.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Provide management counsel, oversight, and functional work direction to the T&D Engineering Supervisors for matters related to the operation and maintenance of the delivery system and implementation of capital projects.
Focus on safety and use of sound utility practices, engineering standards and technical proficiency; ensure the systems are constructed and rebuilt on an economic, efficient, uniform, and timely basis and that uniform policies and procedures are applied throughout the District.
Establish and maintain cross-functional relationships and assign resources to effectively resolve operational, maintenance, technical, procurement, legal, financial, and regulatory problems. For capital projects, this position serves as the Energy Delivery liaison with the following entities on issues that will or could affect Energy Delivery: Corporate Environmental, Generation Strategies, Projects and Capital Planning, Resource Planning and Risk, Procurement, Legal and Finance.
Assist the Delivery Managers by providing operations and maintenance support, project management support and engineering resources, as well as long-range strategic planning. Protect the design basis, ensure that configuration control is maintained and ensure that system performance is preserved or improved after the completion of the projects. Serve as the primary interface with selected outside organizations that provide engineering expertise and services for Energy Delivery.
Provide direction and support for the compliance and corrective action programs. For the compliance programs, this includes working with the Regulatory Compliance Manager to ensure that the programs adequately identify pertinent regulatory requirements that apply, determine the best method for achieving compliance with the requirements and track when and how each regulatory requirement was met. It also includes ensuring that the compliance programs actively identify and incorporate changes to existing, as well as new regulatory requirements. For the corrective action programs, this includes ensuring that issues requiring corrective action are identified and resolved in a timely fashion and that apparent and root cause analyses are performed with rigor and in a timely manner.

In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range. Successful applicants will be provided more information regarding the incentive program at the time of an interview.
Pay Grade - 17 Monthly
Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: $12,012.00 - $15,315.00
Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska) Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
