Load Forecasting Team Leader

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Load Forecasting Team Leader located at Columbus General Office in Columbus, Nebraska.  Position closes October 22 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time. 

 

Position Summary

The incumbent is responsible for overall technical creation, project management, and project team leadership of load and revenue forecasting projects. This involves conceptualizing, developing, deploying, and analyzing complex econometric models and time series forecasting techniques over time periods ranging from one (1) to thirty (30) or more years in support of financial planning/budgeting and resource planning functions. Incumbent provides the critical analysis, evaluation, and delivery of results of load and revenue forecasting studies to both internal and external stakeholders including regulatory entities, as well as NPPD’s wholesale and retail customers as required.

Education, Training and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in statistics, mathematics, data science, applied analytics, economics, engineering or related quantitatively rigorous field plus seven (7) years of relevant energy industry experience required

OR

Master’s degree or higher and five (5) years of relevant energy industry experience.


Demonstrated experience with econometric or statistical forecasting or modelling required.


Expertise in statistical programming software such as SAS, Python, R required.


Advanced data wrangling or SQL skills strongly preferred

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Lead the development of long-term Electric Load Forecasts at the system level using econometric regression, time series, and machine learning models as appropriate. Perform additional analysis relating to the forecast as necessary.


Lead the development of medium-term monthly load and revenue forecasts at the wholesale customer distributor level using appropriate econometric time series modeling techniques.


Lead the development of medium-term monthly end-use customer class energy and revenue forecasts for NPPD’s Retail business unit.
Ensure the above forecasts properly account for distributed energy resources and new technologies and policies (e.g., energy efficiency, demand response, electrification of heat, PV, EV, etc.).


Use data from NPPD’s wholesale and retail billing systems, including monthly and hourly data, to perform analyses in support of load and revenue studies including: QLG thresholds, summer demand waiver program, monthly unbilled revenue estimates, and other stakeholder requests.


Conduct and perform exploratory analysis of large complex data sets to derive insights and inform future actions including end-use customer surveys for residential and irrigation customers.


Lead collaboration with and support internal stakeholders from diverse areas such as Pricing & Rates, Retail, Financial Management, Resource Planning, Economic Development, Energy Marketing, Sustainable Energy to ensure deliverables meet their needs.


Serve as the subject matter expert for applicable NERC standards including the preparation of RSAWs and participation in periodic audits if necessary.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. 

Pay Grade - 15 Monthly

Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: $8,630.00  - $11,003.00

 

Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska)  Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
