Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Part Time Human Resources Services Coordinator I located at Columbus General Office in Columbus, Nebraska. Position closes June 9th, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time. 

Position Summary

The Human Resources (HR) Services Coordinator provides support across the functional areas of NPPD’s Human Resources Department. This role ensures accurate and timely coordination of key HR programs, which may include recruiting support, new hire onboarding, service awards, employee retirements, drug testing and fitness for duty processes.   The coordinator also compiles the annual workforce and benefits report, helps promote and coordinate the United Way employee campaign and may serve as a point of contact with teammates, regulatory agencies, third party providers and/or other external partners.   The position performs a wide range of administrative responsibilities that require specialized HR knowledge, sound judgment and independent decision-making beyond routine administrative tasks.

Education, Training and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field, (OR) Associate's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field preferred with two years’ experience as described below (OR) a high school diploma/GED and four years of experience as described below. 

Prior Related Experience:
HR-related work such as preparing HR documents, maintaining confidential employee information, and assisting employees or leaders with HR related inquiries in a customer service oriented environment. Candidates should have experience providing administrative or operations support in a team setting and be proficient with computer technology, including Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams. Experience using HRIS, applicant tracking system and other data-entry platforms is preferred, along with the ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines and work independently while applying sound judgment and established procedures. Strong communication skills and experience coordinating process-driven activities such as scheduling, recordkeeping and form processing are essential. The incumbent will be expected to acquire and maintain knowledge of NPPD’s organizational structure, applicable legal requirements, NPPD policies and HR standards, and apply this knowledge appropriately in performing assigned responsibilities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Support Human Resources through activities such as: 

Ordering office supplies, updating and creating reports, maintaining department lists, and administering employee recognition programs. 

Maintaining required posters and providing confidential employee information and reports to management, colleagues, employees, and outside agencies, in accordance with applicable laws and policies. 

Processing, maintaining and retrieving employee information with accuracy and attention to deadlines.

Assisting with recruiting activities, coordinating new hire onboarding, managing service award programs, and processing retirements.

Scheduling and coordinating medical testing appointments, handling FMLA leave requests, coordinating wellness- screenings and processing medical test results. 

Applying working knowledge of District FMLA and Workers’ Compensation processes, including accessing databases, opening new claims and performing initial fact gathering, documenting return to work information and issuing appropriate leave approvals for FMLA cases.

Maintaining familiarity with job roles and NPPD’s organizational structure to understand interdependencies within HR and anticipate impacts of changes across functions to address possible conflicts.

Coordinate invoice reconciliation and payments to external agencies and resolve issues as they arise. 

Provide administrative and cross-functional support within the HR Department, addressing questions from employees, managers, and other customers, and ensuring timely follow-through and resolution.  

Using established human performance, filing and records retention tools to ensure organizational efficiency. Coordinate the collection and processing of all documents required for the assigned functions.

Arranging meetings, including room scheduling, reservations, meals and travel accommodations and preparing materials as needed.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range.  Successful applicants will be provided more information regarding the incentive program at the time of an interview.

 

Pay Grade - 8

Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: $25.35  - $29.57

 

Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska)  Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.

Retirement Savings

NPPD employees may participate in two retirement plan options – a 401(k) plan and a 457(b) plan. Both plans allow for pre-tax or Roth contributions. After the first six months of employment, the 401(k) plan includes a generous matching contribution from NPPD. The five-year vesting period begins on an employee’s hire date.
