Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Pilot located at Columbus General Office in Columbus. Position closes November 21, 2019. This position will report to the Columbus Aviation Manager/Chief Pilot.

Position Summary

The incumbent pilots NPPD and aviation partner aircraft providing safe and efficient air transportation for Nebraska Public Power District and our aviation partner company. The incumbent is subject to random drug testing under NPPD’s Fitness for Duty Program.   Emergency response is required as is weekend and evening availability; candidate must live within 1 hour of Columbus or as determined by management. 


Provide safe and effective air transportation for Nebraska Public Power District and aviation partner company.


The selected candidate must live within one hour of the District’s hangar and is expected to respond to emergencies and work a flexible schedule.

Education, Training and Experience

High School Diploma or GED required.


Requires a minimum of 750 hours total pilot in command time with 250 hours of multi-engine, fixed wing turbo prop pilot in command time. 


Previous King Air experience is preferred.  Currency with King Air multi-engine turbo prop and Beechcraft approved ground and flight school is preferred.


Demonstration of experience and capabilities may be required.

Licenses and/or Certifications

Commercials Pilot’s License with Instrument, Multi-engine ratings is required.


Must have and maintain FAA Second Class Medical Certification.


ATP (Airline Transport Pilot) certification is preferred.


Airframe and/or Power Plant FAA mechanical certification is preferred.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Act as pilot in command on flights for which the pilot has been scheduled. Maintain necessary aircraft records.


Comply with all applicable regulations and District/Department procedures.


Make decisions necessary for starting, delaying, or canceling flights when operating conditions dictate based upon information gathered from weather briefings, airport conditions, and pre-flight inspections.


Ensure the aircraft is clean and prepared for flight with all provisions on board for the safety and comfort of the passengers.


Assist with maintenance on aircraft.


Provide excellent customer service.


Perform other duties as assigned by the Aviation Manager.

Salary Information: $5,658-$7,147 Monthly

Fixed salary paid when not scheduled and overtime paid when scheduled over 40 hours. 


Travel Required: 50% to 75% (With frequent overnight stays, more than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska)  Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
