Procurement Intern - Summer 2024

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Procurement Intern - Summer 2024 located at Columbus General Office in Columbus, Nebraska.  Position will be posted for a minimum of 14 days starting on September 20 and will close December 1, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time or until position is filled.  

 

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Procurement Supervisor, the incumbent will assist with the procurement of materials and services in an efficient and cost-effective manner and in accordance with NPPD policies and procedures in support of business unit needs.  The position involves providing financial, administrative and clerical support to the District.  

Education, Training and Experience

The intern must be enrolled in an accredited two-year or four-year college/university carrying a minimum of 12 semester units/credits or 8 quarter units with freshman, sophomore, junior or senior standing with a major in accounting, business, finance, management or supply chain and must maintain enrollment.  Junior or senior status is preferred.

 

Students enrolled in Associate Programs but planning on pursuing a bachelor's degree will be considered if proof of a 4-year plan can be demonstrated.

 

The internship/training must be in the student's field of study.  College credit may apply to some internships.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Work with internal customers to coordinate ensuring material and service procurements meet existing specifications.  Perform research and incorporate existing requirements into new procurement documents.  

 

Conduct purchasing activities exercising sound judgement in compliance with the appropriate codes, standards, or commitments.

 

Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal customers and key suppliers, focusing on cost savings and assuring on-time delivery of acceptable parts and services.

 

Calculate, post business transactions, process invoices, verify financial data for use in maintaining accounts payable records and provide clerical support necessary to pay the obligation of the organization.  

 

Clarify any questionable invoice items and obtain proper information and/or data regarding invoice payments.

 

Work with the Buyer/Specialist for resolution on various items such as correct PO number, correct vendor, and sales tax questions.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. 

Pay Grade - 99 Hourly

Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: $18.00/hour

 

Travel Required:   Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
