Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Project Coordinator - Projects, Senior Project Coordinator - Projects, Project Manager located at Columbus General Office, Kearney Operations Center, Norfolk Operations Center, York Operations Center in Various/Negotiable, Nebraska. Position closes August 25th, at 11:59 p.m. Central Time. 

This position will report to the Senior Project Manager - Projects. 

Position Summary

The incumbent coordinates daily activities of the assigned project(s), project team, contractors and consultants on projects managed through the District's Project Management Office. The incumbent works closely with, and under the direction of, project managers on larger/complex projects to apply project controls, to assist with technical/project direction and to implement approved project plans.

Education, Training and Experience

Project Coordinator:
Bachelor’s degree (preferably in a technical field); (OR) associates degree in a related field plus two years’ experience; (OR) high school diploma or GED plus six years’ experience.

Senior Project Coordinator:
Bachelor's degree (perferably in a technical field) plus three years of expereince; (OR) associate's degree in related field plus five years of experience; (OR) High School Diploma/General Educational Development (GED) and a minimum of eight years of experience is requried. 

Project Manager:
Bachelor's degree (perferably in a technical field) plus fiveyears of expereince; (OR) associate's degree in related field plus seven years of experience; (OR) High School Diploma/General Educational Development (GED) and a minimum of nine years of experience is requried. 

 

Prior Related Experience:

Project Coordinator:
Multi-task project experience is required with a focus on project implementation. Previous experience in the utility industry is preferred. The incumbent should possess a broad understanding of all regulatory, operational, administrative, and technical aspects of managing multi-disciplined projects.

Senior Project Coordinator: 
Multi-task project expereince is required with focus on project implementation. Previous experience in the utility industry is preferred. The incumbent should possess a board understanding of all regulatory, operational, administrative, and technical aspects of managing multi-disciplined projects. 

Project Manager:
Expereince perferred to be in engineering, operations, work control, maintenance, technology, or related functions at an electric utility. 

Licenses and/or Certifications

Project Coordinator & Senior Project Coordinator:
Professional Engineer (PE)/PMP preferred.

Project Manager:
The incumbent is required to obtain PMP certification within one year of position acceptance. 
Prerequisite requirements for PMP certification:
BA/BS degree, 4,500 hours of quailified project management expereince, and 36 non-overlapping months of quailifed project management expereince. 
Highschool diploma, 7,500 hours of quailifed project management expereince, and 60 non-overlapping months of quailifed project management expereince. 
Qualified experience includes project responsibilites in the following areas: 
Initiating Processes, Planning Processes, Executing Processes, Controlling Processes, Closing Processes

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Project Coordinator: 
Implement approved project plans and assist in the development and ongoing activities of project planning throughout the project implementation.

Direct daily project team activities, planning, scheduling, and budgeting efforts to meet goals and objectives of assigned project plans.

Provide constant, accurate, effective and timely communications with the project manager, project team members, contractors and consultants.

Practice strict adherence to safety guidelines.

Actively participate in project team meetings and feedback sessions.

 

Senior Project Coordinator:
Implement approved project plans and assist in development and ongoing activities of project planning throughout the project implementation. 
Direct daily project team activities, planning, scheduling and budgeting efforts to meet goals and objectives of assigned project plans. 
Provide constant, accurate, effective and timely communications with the Project Manager, project team members, contractors and consultants. 
Practice strict adherence to safety guidelines.
Actively participate in project team meetings and feedback sessions. 
Develop and implement approved project plans for less complex/lower risk projects. 
Understand and operate the Systems, Applications and Products in Data Processing (SAP) enterprise software for planning, scheduling, and budgeting efforts to meet goals and objectives of assigned projects. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (Continued)

Project Manager:
Proficiently execute project management best practices from assginment to closeout and ensure that all phases of the projects meet approved safety, cost, schedule, and quality requirements.
Understand and operate the System, Applications and Products in Data Processing (SAP) Project Systems Module. (External hired must complete Project Systems Module training prior to being assigned a project.)
Maintain an active interface with the customer and assure the customer criteria and objectives are met and the customer is kept fully aware of progress and participates in major decisions. 
Plan, assemble, organize, supervise, and maintain a project management team to successfully execute all phases of projects. Administer all policies and procedures associated with project personnel. Define and manage interfaces.
Plan, schedule and execute all phase projects in accordance with District project management polices and guidelines. Decide the degree of detailed planning necessary to effectively manager each phase project. 
Develop contracting and material procurement strategies that optimize cost, schedule, and quaility considerations in conjunction with procurement and contracts. Negotiate changes to contracts within the general scope of work with support of contract administration.
Establish project control and risk mitigation strategies and ensure their implementation to evaluate critical elements of the work and identify forcasted variances from plans so that corrective action can be taken in a timely manner.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range.  Successful applicants will be provided more information regarding the incentive program at the time of an interview.

Travel Required: 25% to 50% (With frequent overnight stays, more than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska)  Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
