Position Summary

 

Development, scheduling, delivery and assessment of Telecommunications technical training programs. Responsibilities include providing leadership and resolution of technical training and utilizing procedures to maintain and develop current and future training programs.  Provide high quality training to support all disciplines within Telecommunications, including Telecommunications Technicians I-III, Telecommunications Operations Center (TOC) Analysts I-III, and Telecommunications Engineers I-III, in acquiring the knowledge, certification and skills required to perform their jobs safely, efficiently, and with high focus on human performance excellence.  Develop and apply the necessary tools to deliver training programs, monitor training progress, and evaluate trainees and programs.  Coordinate internal, external, and customer related training programs.  Maintain or co-maintain Progression Programs in the respective areas.

Education, Training and Experience

 

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, information technology, or related field and five (5) years of experience as described below

 

(OR) 

 

Associate's degree in electrical/electronic technology and seven (7) years' experience as described below 

 

(OR) 

 

High school diploma or GED and ten (10) years’ experience as described below.

 

External Candidate Experience: Experience in the operations of telecommunications systems in an electrical utility is required. Incumbents must have hands-on telecommunication field technician, engineering, or telecommunication operation center experience; OR hands-on training experience in a technical environment; OR hands-on experience building and administering a training program. Must demonstrate proficiency at developing new training using the Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) or the ADDIE process. Prior leadership experience and training experience are preferred. 

 

Internal Candidate Experience: In addition to the standard qualifications above, internal candidates must have achieved a minimum of a level III in their respective position inside of NPPD Telecommunications to be considered for this position. Preference will be given to internal candidates who have experience in developing new training, serving as a mentor, and acting in a leadership capacity.

 

Licenses and/or Certifications

 

Due to NERC regulatory requirements on medium and high asset locations, the incumbent may be required to obtain and maintain a satisfactory NERC background check.  

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

 

Develop, document, coordinate, deliver, and continually review training instructions and training plans necessary to support operations of Telecommunications personnel while ensuring curriculum stays current and correct. This includes determining what training is needed, creation of the training, and support in presenting/teaching content. 

 

Research and evaluate industry best practices as they relate to Telecommunications processes and practices. Integrate best practices into Telecommunications training curriculum.

 

Review job skills and employee performance with work group leaders to determine whether training can improve employee job performance and prevent work errors.

 

Evaluate trainee performance and share results with appropriate supervision.

 

Provide training to Telecommunications employees in acquiring the knowledge, certification and skills required to perform their jobs. Assist other business unit trainers as needs arise.

 

Leverage the knowledge and skills of Telecommunications employees to enhance the overall training program(s) and use these employees as subject matter experts to assist in the delivery of the curriculum.

 

Work with industry experts, engineers, and technicians to build internal training sessions, which are validated and supported by the Telecom O&M Manager.

 

Maintain or co-maintain responsibility for the Progression Programs in respective area. 

 

Conduct training needs analysis and interpret data. Prepare and administer effective means for evaluation of training programs.

 

Effectively identify and communicate potentially problematic situations.  Contact appropriate personnel to obtain assistance in problem resolution and scheduling.

 

Exercise independent judgment using a calm, collective approach during stressful situations.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range.  Successful applicants will be provided more information regarding the incentive program at the time of an interview.

 

Pay Grade - 14 Monthly

Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: $8,218.00  - $10,478.00

 

Travel Required: 25% to 50% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska)  Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.

Retirement Savings

NPPD employees may participate in two retirement plan options – a 401(k) plan and a 457(b) plan. Both plans allow for pre-tax or Roth contributions. After the first six months of employment, the 401(k) plan includes a generous matching contribution from NPPD. The five-year vesting period begins on an employee’s hire date. Our retired employees are eligible for retiree healthcare benefits as well as a life benefit paid out to designated beneficiaries upon their passing.
