Workforce Development Lead

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Workforce Development Lead located at the Columbus General Office in Columbus. The position closes June 4, 2020. This position will report to the Workforce Health and Development Manager.

Position Summary

The Workforce Development Lead is a technical subject matter expert who supports and coordinates efforts of the Workforce Development training strategy and its related activities.  The Lead organizes, administers, evaluates and makes decisions concerning the offerings for individual development, team building, supervisor exploration and development, and leadership development. Focuses on enhancing workplace effectiveness, enhancing participant performance, and ensuring the availability of a workforce skilled to meet the needs of Nebraska Public Power District.

Education, Training and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Business Administration or a related field plus five  years business, soft skills-related training, development, and delivery experience is required.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Coordinate and administer the offerings within the District’s workforce training strategy. Collect feedback on program effectiveness and implement continuous improvements.  Interface with NPPD management and staff to identify actionable soft skills training needs. Analyze, design, develop, implement, and evaluate soft skills instruction using the Systematic Approach to Training. Deliver training and coach employees, supervisors, and managers on application of learning program content. 


Analyze District-wide workforce plans and develop actions related to future workforce/talent needs. Utilize SAP to prepare reports related to current staffing and to assist in identifying future needs.  Make decisions  regarding appropriate content for workforce development programs and recommend programs to address workforce training and development needs.  


Develop and implement meaningful leading performance measures. Utilize best practices from others in the industry to ensure that NPPD is prepared for future staffing needs.


Administer various workforce development programs and initiatives intended to improve NPPD’s workforce capabilities, performance, and performance-oriented culture.  This includes, but is not limited to, serving as a member of the Nebraska Energy Workforce Consortium (NEWC), conducting program surveys and other assessments aimed to improve programming. Analyze and report on workforce data.


Identify development gaps and implement strategies to improve the effectiveness of employee performance in achieving District goals and objectives. Evaluate the effectiveness of all development efforts on an ongoing basis and make adjustments as needed.   


Facilitate various workforce development classroom training programs and initiatives intended to improve NPPD’s workforce capabilities and performance.

Salary Information: $6,480-$8,184 per month


Travel Required: 25% to 50% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska)  Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
