Energy Manager

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Energy Manager located at Doniphan Control Center in Doniphan. Position closes April 15, 2021.

Position Summary

Incumbent is responsible for managing the interface with The Energy Authority's (TEA) energy market and trading activities, and for optimizing NPPD and non-NPPD generation resources to maximize revenues while limiting risk. Incumbent represents NPPD’s position on energy market issues in the Southwest Power Pool (SPP). Incumbent is also responsible for managing the hourly load forecasting and unit commitment programs. Other responsibilities include billable demand management and development and training of staff.

Education, Training and Experience

Associates degree in electrical or electronics technology and 10 years experience as described below or HS diploma and 15 years experience as described below:

 

Experience as a Relief Operator, System Control Operator, Real time Marketer, Generation Operator, Engineering experience or equivalent.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in computers, specifically Microsoft Excel. 
  • Competence with mathematics and technical concepts. 
  • High degree of analytical aptitude, attention to detail and organization skills. 
  • Effective written and oral communication skills as well as computer skills.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Act as the primary contact between NPPD and The Energy Authority (TEA) to help ensure maximum benefits and net margin for NPPD. Create, monitor and continuously improve procedures for interfacing with TEA. Monitor and critique TEA's performance at representing NPPD in the marketplace.

 

 Works with Risk Management to define and evaluate risks on potential transactions.

 

The efficient and economical allocation of the District's generation resources, including utilization of non-District resources if appropriate.

 

Training and development of subordinate staff, including the creation and maintenance of training curriculums, programs and certifications.

 

Administration of the District's Billable Demand program and interaction with wholesale and interconnected customers on operational matters.

Accountable for other duties as assigned.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. 

Pay Grade - 17 Monthly

Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: 10,982.67  -  14,002.90

Travel Required: Up to 25% (With frequent overnight stays, more than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska)  Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
