Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Energy Supply Operator located at Doniphan Control Center in Doniphan, Nebraska. Position closes October 13, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time.
Position Summary
The incumbent is responsible for directing the generation of District and non-District resources with emphasis on optimizing and adhering to North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards. Incumbent is also responsible for determining appropriate risk exposure for hourly purchases and sales through the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) Market. Incumbent, while working 12-hour shifts, is required to predict and adjust hourly load forecasts, generation projections, SPP Market submittals, and is responsible for sending the District's Billable Demand Program.
Directing the generation of District and non-District resources in which they manage with emphasis on optimizing units to optimize fuel, load, and generation while minimizing risk and maintaining reliability for the unit and grid. Responsible for SPP Market submittal information into the SPP Market for the District for both the Real-Time and Next-Day Energy Supply Desks. Also the monitoring and responding to directions given by reliability groups and the SPP Market.
Education, Training and Experience
Bachelor's degree in electrical or electronics technology and two years of experience as described below.
OR
Associate's degree in electrical or electronics technology and three years of experience as described below.
OR
High school diploma and five years of experience as described below.
Prior Related Experience
Experience as Generation Control Operator, Control Area Operator, Real-Time Marketer or Trader, System Control Operator, or other experience as deemed equivalent by District management.
Licenses and/or Certifications
Incumbent is required to be a NERC Certified System Operator within 12 months of accepting position.
Incumbent must establish and maintain acceptable NERC security background check.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Shall direct the generation of District and non-District resources in an effort to maximize generation based on economic merit and SPP Market signals. This includes communicating with power plant operating personnel, as needed, for the automatic and manual control of generation.
Incumbent is responsible for providing Ancillary Services for the SPP Market and responding to requests by reliability groups and the SPP Market for these Ancillary Services to maintain the Bulk Electric System. This includes informing power plant operating personnel of the responsibilities in meeting the District's obligations.
Shall be responsible for determining appropriate level of risk exposure to the District as it pertains to SPP Integrated Marketplace (IM) Market activities. This shall be accomplished by having a complete understanding of the SPP IM Markets, other Regional Transmission Organization (RTO) Markets, and system condition trends. Incumbent will communicate this information to The Energy Authority (TEA), the SPP, and the District by using provided software tools and/or verbal communication. Shall also develop a healthy working relationship with other work groups at the District, TEA, and SPP staff.
Shall develop a healthy working relationship with Doniphan Control Center staff and the SPP to ensure that the District's Bulk Power System is operated reliably and economically.
Shall be responsible for needed Market submittals as conditions change Real-Time. This will include updating the SPP and TEA of the adjustments. This shall include the ramping of generation and schedules to meet the changes in hourly load levels and the following of SPP Market deployments.

In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range. Pay Grade - 15 Hourly
Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: $52.82 - $67.34
Travel Required: Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
