Position Summary
Perform construction, maintenance, and operation of the District's electrical systems, including transmission, subtransmission, and distribution lines; substations; and equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Take assigned after-hours standby duty on a regular basis. Ascend and descend wood poles and steel towers of any height regularly to perform work, as required, in a safe and productive manner without close supervision. Provide storm support as requested both in and out of state.
NOTE: This position is included in the Operations Technician Training Program (OTTP). The OTTP is a two-year program in which the Technician In-Training will be placed in vacant positions, or where there is a business need. The Technician In-Training will receive all benefits of a regular, full-time employee during the two-year program. Incumbents must be willing and able to relocate anywhere within the state of Nebraska and must be willing to work in a Transmission and Distribution (T&D) environment.
Education, Training and Experience
Must be a graduate (certificate, diploma, or associate's degree) of an accredited line technician school.
OR
Achieve a certificate from a District-approved program.
OR
Have documented line technician experience with another utility or electrical contractor that is considered an acceptable equivalent to the formal education options listed.
Licenses and/or Certifications
Must maintain Red Cross community cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid certifications and pole top and bucket truck rescue certifications. Class A commercial driver's license (CDL) required.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Construction, maintenance, and operation of lines, substations, and equipment. Ascend and descend wood poles and steel towers of any height regularly to perform work as required in a safe and productive manner with and without close supervision.
Operation and maintenance of District vehicles and hydraulic equipment.
Installation and maintenance of services, and installation and removal of meters.
Analyze and initiate corrective action on outages, and troubleshoot service-related problems.
Accurate and timely record keeping, such as material, time, and equipment documents. Issue and return stores materials.
Perform energized line work. Journey Line Technician is required to work 69 kV and below.
Incumbent is expected to travel as assigned for work and to be available for duty per on-call schedules and storm support as determined by the Distribution Superintendent/Supervisor. This is part of the expected job function and associated compensation.
Trim trees out of distribution and subtransmission conductors. Service street and area lighting systems.
Accountable for other duties as assigned.

Apprentice Distribution Line Technician In-Training - $37.04/hour
DistributionLine Technician In-Training - $44.44/hour
Journey Distribution Line Technician In-Training - $52.84/hour
Travel Required: 25% to 50% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska) Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
