Engineering Supervisor - Distribution

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for an Engineering Supervisor - Distribution located at the Kearney Operations Center, Norfolk Operations Center, or the York Operations Center.  Position closes October 30, 2020. This position will report to the Engineering & Asset Manager - Delivery.

Position Summary

This position is accountable for providing leadership, technical direction, and policy administration for engineering activities related to distribution lines. Expectations will be to develop engineering excellence, meet business needs and requirements, exceed customer expectations, and continuously develop employee competencies.

 

Incumbent will provide direct supervision to the Distribution Engineering team within T&D Engineering & Asset Health. Review and approve technical designs, work packets, make work assignments, evaluate staff performance and recommend salary adjustments, provide training, and be a contact point for interfacing with internal and external work groups associated with Distribution Engineering design functions and tasks.

Education, Training and Experience

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university required.

 

Prior Related Experience:

5-7 years in Distribution engineering, Operations, and or general utility operations are required. 3 years of supervisory experience is preferred. Demonstrated leadership and design skills in previous work experiences are preferred.

Licenses and/or Certifications

Nebraska Registered Professional Engineer is required.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Provide supervision and leadership for engineering excellence in the Distribution group. Provide leadership and be available during abnormal system conditions such as storms, system outages, etc.

 

Supervise the Distribution engineering team and apply all human resource policies and procedures.

 

Advanced understanding and utilization of the SAP tool and the associated EBS processes. Utilize the IPSEC model in lifecycle of projects. Develop knowledge and provide guidance/training to team members for new technologies, such as, GIS, PLS-CADD, and GWD.

 

Establish and maintain excellent working relations with the other areas of Operations, other internal staff of NPPD, along with external customers of NPPD.

 

Recruit, develop, and coach employees in technical, customer service, and work management areas.

 

Develop team budget and requirements to assist with the departmental budgets. Create, monitor, and maintain appropriate performance goals and measurements for the team to determine if goals are being met efficiently.

 

Assist in developing engineering standards for the team to ensure the consistency of projects that are being created.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. 

Pay Grade - 16 Monthly

Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: $9,141.02  -  $11,654.80 per month

 

Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska)  Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
