Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Customer Care Intern - Summer 2026 located at Norfolk Customer Care Center in Norfolk, Nebraska.  Position closes November 30 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time. 

 

The Customer Care Intern will have a shift assignment of 8-4:30pm the first week of starting the internship for training.  Shift assingment will be adjusted to 4:00pm-12:00am for the remainder of the internship.  Work schedule will be Monday - Friday with no weekends.

 

This position will report to the Customer Services Lead.

Position Summary

This is a temporary entry-level customer care position. Incumbent assumes primary accountability for customer relationships by assisting customers with after normal business hours with inquiries, requests, and outage calls.

 

 

Education, Training and Experience

The Intern must be enrolled in an accredited two‑year or four‑year college/university carrying a minimum of 12 semester units or eight quarter units with freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior standing in a related major and must maintain enrollment throughout the internship. The internship/training must be in the student's field of study. College credit may apply to some internships.

 

Excellent keyboarding skills (minimum of 35 words per minute), completion of written and grammar skills test, and the ability to present oneself in a professional manner is required.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers by providing knowledge-based solutions to customer issues that are in the best interest of NPPD and our customers. This includes account collections, requests, and outage calls.

 

Ensure the integrity of information provided to customers by referencing specific procedures and reference documents.

 

Effectively use NPPD systems such as SOS, CISCO phone system, and SharePoint to successfully complete assigned tasks.

 

Follow NPPD safety processes and procedures.

Accountable for other duties as assigned.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range.  Successful applicants will be provided more information regarding the incentive program at the time of an interview.

Pay Grade - 99 Hourly

Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: $19.00/hour

 

Interns may be eligible for $1000.00 housing stipend.  

 

Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska)  Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.

Retirement Savings

NPPD employees may participate in two retirement plan options – a 401(k) plan and a 457(b) plan. Both plans allow for pre-tax or Roth contributions. After the first six months of employment, the 401(k) plan includes a generous matching contribution from NPPD. The five-year vesting period begins on an employee’s hire date. Our retired employees are eligible for retiree healthcare benefits as well as a life benefit paid out to designated beneficiaries upon their passing.
