Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Canaday/Water/Renewable Energy Manager located at North Platte Office in North Platte, Nebraska. Position closes November 14, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time.
This position will report to the Vice President Energy Production.
Position Summary
The incumbent is responsible for the safe, reliable, and economic performance of Canaday Station and Water Systems/Renewable Energy. A team culture, process adherence, long-term planning, continuous improvement, and environmental stewardship will be promoted at all time, as well as a focus on customer service and employee development.
Education, Training and Experience
Undergraduate degree in engineering, business administration, or science and seven years of experience as described herein.
OR
Associates degree in business or technical discipline and ten years of experience as described herein.
OR
High school diploma/GED and 15 years of experience as described herein.
A degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited university is desired.
Experience – broad-based utility experience related to the planning, design, construction, operation, or maintenance of steam, hydro, or wind generation facilities is desired, with progressively increasing supervisory and management responsibilities in an organization, preferably related to energy generation.
Licenses and/or Certifications
Registered professional engineer certification in the state of Nebraska is desired.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Plan, organize, direct, and coordinate the operation and maintenance of all wind, water, and steam facilities through management of a leadership team. Develop performance standards that are measurable and to which the leadership team can be held accountable, track progress, and take corrective action when standards are not met.
Establish continuous personal development, career planning, coaching, training, and counseling at all facilities as appropriate. Responsible for hiring, performance management, and salary administration.
Responsible for compliance with safety and regulatory (environmental, FERC, NERC) requirements, and the development and implementation of emergency response plans for all facilities as appropriate. Development and implementation of Emergency Action Plans for FERC- and Nebraska Department of Natural Resources (DNR)-regulated dams and water systems will be coordinated with Water Resources and the Dam Safety Engineer. The health and safety of the public is the primary mandate.
Ensure that processes are continuously improved to make all wind, water, and steam facilities more efficient and to meet availability targets. Work with Energy Management to ensure the production of electrical energy is responsive to energy market signals and requirements. Develop outage schedules that will be used in Rate Outlook and will also meet energy market requirements per Energy Management.
Prepare the budget and control costs for all wind, water, and steam facilities. Coordinate with the various departments and provide input to their budgets to arrive at and approve the overall budgets at the facilities.
Work effectively with other generation facilities and Production Departments regarding capital improvements, maintenance schedules, budgets, resource sharing, and other operational issues.
Incumbent is accountable for miscellaneous other responsibilities as assigned or required.

In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range. Pay Grade - 17 Monthly
Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: $12,372.00 - $15,774.00
Travel Required: Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
