Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Engineering Intern - Water/Renewable Energy located at North Platte Office in North Platte, Nebraska. Position closes October 31, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time or until filled.
Position Summary
Nebraska Public Power District is seeking an engineering student to work with and assist other experienced engineering staff in the Water/Renewable Energy Engineering Department at North Platte Office. Civil or other relevant engineering disciplines are acceptable. The duration of the internship will May 2025 to August 2025, based on school calendar dates.
Education, Training and Experience
The student must be pursuing an engineering degree from an accredited college/university. At a minimum, the student must be finishing their sophomore year of college.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Assist with applying standard engineering practices and techniques utilizing prescribed methods in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks.
Performs a variety of specific tasks within each of the primary responsibilities: general understanding of the process involved, of the electric utility industry, and of economic/accounting principles; ability to manage personal performance; prepare design calculations; obtain field data; utilize drawings; develop design requirements; develop drawings and material lists; develop request for quotations; coordinate with procurement departments; and develop cost estimates.
Support Operations and Maintenance activities and associated skills which are required to provide technical support to the operation and maintenance of existing equipment or systems; troubleshooting, inspection, and testing performance.
Accountable for other duties as assigned.

Engineer Intern - Sophomore - $23.47 per hour
Engineer Intern - Junior - $25.27 per hour
Engineer Intern - Senior - $27.08 per hour
Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska) Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
