Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Operations Manager - Water Systems located at North Platte Office in North Platte, Nebraska. Position closes December 28, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time.
This position will report to the Canaday/Water/Renewable Energy Manager.
Position Summary
Primary Duty of Position:
The incumbent is responsible for leading the Operations team to provide high quality, low cost and responsive water supply and generation operations to customers (hydro, GGS, irrigation). The incumbent is also responsible for directing, organizing, planning and scheduling of irrigation water deliveries while maintaining and protecting the Districts water rights in accordance with state law and regulations.
Operations: The WS/RE Operations team shall be defined as all operational facilities and personnel at the North Platte Hydro, Kearney Hydro, Spencer Hydro, Canal Patrol and any NPPD Renewable Energy generating facilities, that are remotely operated from the North Platte Hydro. The incumbent is responsible for leading the Operations team to provide high quality, low cost and responsive water supply and generation operations to customers (hydro, GGS, irrigation). This position is responsible for achieving performance goals, long-term planning and direction, and customer satisfaction.
Irrigation: The incumbent is responsible for directing, organizing, planning and scheduling of NPPD irrigation customer water deliveries, storage water contract irrigation customers, B1 reservoir deliveries, groundwater recharge and other future irrigation deliveries. The incumbent is also responsible for interaction with employees, customers and the public in order to sustain a successful business unit and customer satisfaction. The incumbent will also assist in maintenance and protection of the Districts water rights in accordance with state law, NPPD contracts, and regulations.
Education, Training and Experience
Two-year technical degree or equivalent military training in mechanical equipment, construction, or agriculture and 10 years' experience.
OR
High School diploma/GED and either: 1) a minimum of 15 years of experience in mechanical equipment, construction, agriculture, or power production/water delivery systems or 2) other work experience or demonstrated performance indicating that the applicant has the skills and ability to perform the required duties of the position.
Licenses and/or Certifications
Valid Driver's License
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Provide planning and management to the Operations team to optimize the water for hydro generation, irrigation, Gerald Gentleman Station cooling, water storage and other customer
requirements. Provide input to the Mechanical/Electrical Maintenance group team to optimize the operations of WS/RE.
Provide leadership to the Operations team to improve performance related water scheduling, data collection, hydro generation, remote renewable energy generation, delivery of irrigation water, and water flow control processes.
Incumbent shall be responsible for the Water Systems/Renewable Energy areas Lockout/Tagout program and maintain compliance with the Energy Supply Procedure.
Conduct risk analyses for processes in functional area of responsibility, identify problems, and implement appropriate solutions. Must possess an understanding of Environmental interactions as they relate to the Platte River and in general, including the EPA, USACE, and the State. Must possess a good relationship with regulatory agencies such as F.E.R.C., N.E.R.C., State of NE Department of Roads, NDEQ and surrounding county and city governments.
Establish and track performance measures to monitor the achievement and success of the Operations area. Continually review and improve water supply processes, operating procedures, and guidelines to increase efficiency and effectiveness of the Hydro and Irrigation water deliveries.

In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range. Successful applicants will be provided more information regarding the incentive program at the time of an interview.
Pay Grade - 16 Monthly
Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: $10,503.00 - $13,392.00
Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska) Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
