Position Summary

Perform construction, maintenance, and operation of the NPPD electrical systems, including Transmission, Subtransmission, and Distribution Lines, Substations and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.  Take assigned after-hours standby duty on a regular basis.  Ascend and descend wood poles and steel towers of any height regularly to perform work as required in a safe and productive manner without close supervision. Provide storm support as requested both in and out of state.

 

Safely construct and maintain Transmission, Subtransmission, and Distribution lines and facilities while providing the technical leadership in areas of responsibility.

Education, Training and Experience

Must have achieved Line Technician status with NPPD OR obtained an official Journeyman certification with another utility or contractor.  External incumbents would be required to complete the Journey Oral Review as outlined in the Line Technician Progression Program.

 

Distribution Line Technician Progression Program

Apprentice Line Technician - Entry level position.

 

Line Technician - Thirty months as an Apprentice Line Technician is the normal previous experience requirement (as outlined in the Line Technician Progression Program) for this position and the completion of the Line Technician Written Exam.

 

Journey Line Technician - Four (4) years combined experience at the Apprentice and Line Technician levels is the normal minimum experience requirement (as outlined in the Line Technician Progression Program) for progression to this position.

Licenses and/or Certifications

Must maintain Red Cross Community CPR and First Aid Certifications, Pole Top and Bucket Truck Rescue Certifications.  Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Construction, maintenance and operation of lines, substations, and equipment.  Ascend and descend wood poles and steel towers of any height regularly to perform work as required in a safe and productive manner without close supervision.

 

Operation and maintenance of District vehicles and hydraulic equipment.

 

Installation and maintenance of services, and installation and removal of meters.

 

Analyze and initiate corrective action on outages and troubleshoot service related problems.

 

Accurate and timely record keeping, i.e., material, time, and equipment documents. Issue and return stores materials.

 

Perform energized line work. Journey Line Technician is required to work 34.5 KV and below.

 

Incumbent is expected to travel as assigned for work, and to be available for duty per on-call schedules and storm support as determined by the Distribution Superintendent/Supervisor. This is part of the expected job junction and associated compensation.

 

Incumbent is accountable for miscellaneous other responsibilities as assigned or required.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range.  Successful applicants will be provided more information regarding the incentive program at the time of an interview.

Apprentice Line Technician non-exempt pay grade 10: $39.29/hour 

Line Technician non-exempt pay grade 12: $47.15/hour

Journey Line Technician non-exempt pay grade 13: $56.06/hour

Travel Required:   Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.

Retirement Savings

NPPD employees may participate in two retirement plan options – a 401(k) plan and a 457(b) plan. Both plans allow for pre-tax or Roth contributions. After the first six months of employment, the 401(k) plan includes a generous matching contribution from NPPD. The five-year vesting period begins on an employee’s hire date. Our retired employees are eligible for retiree healthcare benefits as well as a life benefit paid out to designated beneficiaries upon their passing.
