Energy Efficiency Consultant

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has two immediate openings for an Energy Efficiency Consultant. Location preference is for one Consultant to be located at the Scottsbluff Office, and one Consultant to be located at the North Platte Office, with Ainsworth, Canaday Station, Chadron, Kearney Operations Center, McCook, and the Ogallala Operations Center as negotiable locations. Position closes October 21, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time. 

Position Summary

The Incumbent meets and communicates regularly with Account Management, Economic Development personnel, Wholesale Customers (and their end-use customers), NPPD Retail Customers, and Industry Executives to provide, support, or facilitate the delivery of value-added energy-related services and information in support of the customers' operations as it relates to residential and commercial business sectors.


This position is part of a progression program, which recognizes the level of knowledge and experience of the individual.

Education, Training and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and 2 years of related experience or a Bachelor's Degree in another area and 4 years of related experience, or an Associate's Degree and 6 years of related experience, or High School/GED and 10 years of related experience.


The related experience previously noted includes technical sales (i.e. sales of energy-related products), application of lighting, HVAC, motors, energy-efficient equipment application, and/or front line customer service directly related to these areas (and a demonstration of technical knowledge of these areas).

Licenses and/or Certifications

Certification as a Certified Energy Manager within one year is expected.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The incumbent actively supports Account Management, Wholesale Customers, and Retail customers with energy-related services and increased focus on energy efficiency and efficient electrification. Services provided include: Energy and energy cost-related analyses, power quality, power factor, audits, rate comparisons, energy-efficient product promotion, lighting system analyses, demand management, building energy conservation recommendations, reliability analyses and corrective actions, engineering and technical support for GeoEnergy, Energy Monitoring, Energy Information Analyses, Energy Conservation, Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy, and Efficient Electrification programs.



Develop relationships with key business partners (dealers, builders, contractors, etc.) and actively promote energy efficiency and efficient electrification improvements that are in the best interest of end-use customers. Develop relationships with key industry and business associations and develop alliances with vendors to leverage the services that can be provided to Account Management, Wholesale Customers, and their end-use customers.


Serve as the District's Energy Expert and be the expert contact on specific processes and technology resources (e.g. Demand and Energy, High-Efficiency Illumination, GeoEnergy, Energy Monitoring, and Information, etc.), including latest research trends.


Develop technical knowledge and proactively promote energy efficiency, demand reduction, and efficient electrification. Utilize reporting tools to monitor performance (activity and results).


Serve as a trusted energy partner for Account Management, Wholesale Customers, NPPD Retail, and their end-use customers.


Provide technical assistance as requested in recruiting new industry to the District's service area in support of the Economic Development Department and annual system sales growth. Develop a technical specialty area and share this with the team in coordination with Sustainable Energy Leadership.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. 

Pay Grade - 13 Monthly

Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: $6,260.90  - $7,826.12 per month


Travel Required: 25% to 50% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska)  Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
