Position Summary

This position is responsible for providing project and technical engineering support to the power generation team at Gerald Gentleman Station (GGS) and other District facilities, as directed. The engineering support includes design, configuration control, scheduling, project management, analysis of operational issues, on-site support, primary O&M/capital cost budgeting, and technical studies of problems which affect the generation facilities. The support will be supplied safely and with excellent customer service.

Education, Training and Experience

Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, or business is required. Engineering experience at a coal fired power plant preferred. 

Prior Related Experience

Ten years of professional level technical experience in commercial power stations or large industrial facilities is required. Engineering experience or familiarity with engineering processes and terminology is preferred. Other work experience or demonstrated performance indicating that the applicant has the skills and ability to perform the duties of the position may be substituted for the specified years of experience.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Manage a group of GGS Engineers and other technical employees as assigned. 

Establishes continuous personal development for their employees. Practices career planning, coaching, training, and counseling in the work unit. Is responsible for managerial activities including, but not limited to, hiring, performance management, disciplinary action, and salary administration.

Prepares the budget and controls costs for their Engineering Department. Also coordinates with GGS Station Manager, Managers, and Financial Analyst to arrive at the overall station budget.

Provides effective technical support to power generation. Ensures the accuracy of all significant root cause analyses to make sure the preventive actions are sufficient to preclude recurrence. Focuses on station performance and long-range strategic planning. Protects the plant design and ensures configuration control is maintained for changes in the facility.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range.  Successful applicants will be provided more information regarding the incentive program at the time of an interview.

Pay Grade - 16 Monthly

Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: $10,503.00  - $13,392.00

Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska)  Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.

Retirement Savings

NPPD employees may participate in two retirement plan options – a 401(k) plan and a 457(b) plan. Both plans allow for pre-tax or Roth contributions. After the first six months of employment, the 401(k) plan includes a generous matching contribution from NPPD. The five-year vesting period begins on an employee’s hire date. Our retired employees are eligible for retiree healthcare benefits as well as a life benefit paid out to designated beneficiaries upon their passing.
