Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Health & Wellness Specialist I or II located at Gerald Gentleman Station, North Platte Office, Sheldon Station in Various/Negotiable, Nebraska.  Position closes Monday June 22nd, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time. 

This position will report to the Director of Corporate Safety & Health. 

Position Summary

The Level 1 Health & Wellness Specialist supports the development, coordination, and implementation of the District’s medical and wellness programs. This position performs medical testing in accordance with state and federal regulations and District protocols. The incumbent assists in promoting healthier lifestyles for employees and supports wellness program activities.

 

The Level 2 Health & Wellness Specialist functions as an advanced technical resource for the District’s medical and wellness programs. The incumbent coordinates complex medical testing functions, supports compliance efforts, and leads key operational processes such as inventory control, vendor/contract oversight, hearing conservation program management and drug and alcohol program administration. This role mentors Level 1 specialists, provides program leadership, and ensures high-level execution of District health and wellness initiatives.

Education, Training and Experience

Medical Certification or Associates Degree in Business or the Medical Field and three years' related medical experience (OR) High School Diploma and six years' related medical experience.

RN, LPN, CMA,  RT, EMT or Paramedic preferred. 

Prior Related Experience:
Related medical or medical administration experience is required, occupational health experience preferred.  General clerical/office experience with increasing responsibilities required. Experience in using Occupational Health Manager software is desired. Related medical experience and knowledge of medical terminology beneficial.

Licenses and/or Certifications

Preferred:

NIOSH Spirometry Certification

CAOHC Hearing Conservation Certification

CPR/First Aid Certified

Class B Drug and Alcohol Permit

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Organize, schedule, and conduct on-site medical testing and examinations in accordance with District procedures.

Interact with management to coordinate testing and ensure employees meet required medical qualifications.

Travel to District locations to conduct medical testing; periodic evening, weekend, or overnight travel may be required.

Research and interpret health regulations and guidelines; assist in reviewing District health standards.

Coordinate post-offer physicals and annual medical exams as directed.

Assist in preparing program-related reports (employees due for testing, wellness incentive qualifiers, etc.).

Support OHM software data entry, medical surveillance updates, and troubleshooting under guidance from Level 2 or supervisor.

Operate required medical and testing equipment (Spirometer, Audiometer, Capillary Analyzer, etc.).

Participate in administering wellness programs, on-site vendor activities, flu shots, and employee communications.

Maintain strict confidentiality of medical records.

Assist in the hearing conservation program including scheduling follow-up testing.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range.  Successful applicants will be provided more information regarding the incentive program at the time of an interview.

Pay Grade - 11 Monthly

Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: $5,747.00  - $7,184.00

 

Health and Wellness Specialist II
Pay Grade -
12 Monthly

Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: $6,837.00  - $8,096.00

 

Travel Required: 25% to 50% (With frequent overnight stays, more than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska)  Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.

Retirement Savings

NPPD employees may participate in two retirement plan options – a 401(k) plan and a 457(b) plan. Both plans allow for pre-tax or Roth contributions. After the first six months of employment, the 401(k) plan includes a generous matching contribution from NPPD. The five-year vesting period begins on an employee’s hire date. Our retired employees are eligible for retiree healthcare benefits as well as a life benefit paid out to designated beneficiaries upon their passing.
