T&D Asset Management Specialist OR Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineer I/II/III - Asset Health

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a T&D Asset Management Specialist OR an Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineer I/II/III - Asset Health located at the York Operations Center (preferred), Kearney Operations Center, Columbus General Office, or the Norfolk Operations Center. The position closes April 9, 2020. This position will report to the Engineering Supervisor - Asset Health.

Position Summary

T&D Asset Management Specialist:

Varied work assignments include specific areas of preventative maintenance: equipment life cycle plans for directed asset areas, analytics on asset performance and identification of future asset risks and mitigation strategies (Preventative Maintenance Plans) programs, regulatory compliance (NERC and SPP), risk management, and capital budget project scope.

 

Engineer I/II/III - Asset Health:

Note: Level I to Level III Engineer is considered a progression and is approved by the appropriate manager.  All NPPD engineering positions are managed under the NPPD Engineering Technical Career Path document. 

 

Position provides daily support for operations and maintenance, trending system performance and initiating actions to restore/improve system performance and reliability, troubleshooting off-normal system conditions, failure and root cause analysis, evaluation of proposed configuration changes, recommendations to maintain asset value, and coordination of maintenance-related projects.

 

Assignments are designed to develop general knowledge of professional engineering practice in the electric utility industry and introduce customer/supplier communication skills.

 

In addition to the general engineering activities above, job-specific knowledge and expectations for this individual role will include:

 

Asset Health Engineer:

This position will assist in all areas of delivery and performance analysis for electrical equipment. Areas of duties include: improving assigned Life Cycle Management processes, critical component and capital prioritization, provide highly insightful analytics on asset performance and identify future asset risks and mitigation strategies, Master Data review and standardization for all equipment materials, outage data review to assist with reporting for the Transmission & Distribution benchmarking system, managing key NERC/FERC programs, and the prioritization of all aging District assets.

 

The successful candidate will be expected to continually interact with technicians in the field, as well as to provide an increasing amount of engineering expertise to other professionals, engineers, and technicians as they develop in the position.

 

The level assigned to the successful candidate will be determined by the candidate's skills and ability.

 

Education, Training and Experience

T&D Asset Management Specialist:

Bachelor's Degree plus 3-years' experience as described under ‘Experience’, OR an Associate's Degree in a technical science-related discipline listed plus 5 years' experience as described under ‘Experience’, OR High School Diploma/GED plus 7 years of experience as described under ‘Experience’.

 

Experience:

Direct utility experience in construction and maintenance of utility line and substations, planning and scheduling utility work management, development and creation of line or substation projects. Experience in testing procedures and analysis skills in previous work situations. Technical process analysis experience is required including the use of PC's and software such as MS Excel, MS Access, and PowerPoint; perform analytics, queries, and database processes utilizing SAP.

 

Engineer I/II/III - Asset Health:

Level I to Level III is considered a progression and is approved by the appropriate manager.

 

Level I:

Bachelor's degree in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited college/university is required OR Professional Engineering License and Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from a Non-ABET accredited school is required.

 

Entry level position with assignments designed to develop general knowledge of professional engineering practice in the electric utility industry and introduce customer/supplier communication skills.

 

Level II:

Bachelor's degree in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university or college OR Professional Engineering License obtained by accredited examination.

 

Second level position with assignments designed to develop competent technical knowledge within an engineering discipline, develop customer relations skills, and introduce project management skills.

 

Level III:

Bachelor's degree in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university or college OR Professional Engineering License obtained by accredited examination.

 

A fully competent engineer in conventional aspects within the specific discipline with expertise in specific areas of past assignments. Assignments designed to expand the areas of expertise within the discipline, develop project management skills, and develop a general knowledge of other disciplines.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities - T&D Asset Management Specialist

Ensure that specific multi-year focused reliability, safety, operation, and risk studies are developed and applied generally across all of Delivery and specifically in assigned area of expertise through a consistent process for making spending decisions for both Maintenance and Capital expenditures.

 

Facilitate efforts of Delivery to identify, value, and prioritize opportunities for improvement, assess risk, develop and implement improvement plans with specific results and time objectives. Be capable of "professional" written and verbal reports.

 

Ensure that planning and maintenance activities for all Delivery facilities are conducted in accordance with established  criteria. Incumbent will also support Root Cause Analysis as directed.

 

Assure that all Master Data is entered and maintained to the level of accuracy required for all assets that are tracked within Delivery.

 

Provide support to technical field personnel in specific areas of expertise and participate in the development of Scope of Work documents. Assure all necessary test data is collected and maintained to the level of accuracy required for all applications and processes within Delivery.

 

Ensure all regulatory requirements are identified in Delivery Maintenance and Planning activities that affect the Bulk Electric System (BES) including, but not limited to, SPP and NERC compliance and reporting issues.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities - Engineer I/II/III

Level I:

Performs tasks of limited and specific scope under the direction of experienced personnel. Applies standard engineering practices and techniques, utilizing prescribed methods in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks. Judgment is required on details of work such as correlating data and recognizing discrepancies in results. Communicates with customers and suppliers as directed by supervision.

 

Level II:

Perform tasks of limited and specific scope under the direction of experienced personnel. Plans and conducts detailed phases of work in support of multiple assignments, as well as managing assignments of moderate scope. Independently selects and applies standard engineering techniques and procedures, utilizing prescribed methods in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks. Includes some complex features. Work requires a broad knowledge within the discipline and development of expertise in specific areas of work assignment. Judgment is required on details of work such as correlating data and recognizing discrepancies in results. Communicates with customers and suppliers as needed.

 

Level III:

Performs detailed development, planning, and implementation of numerous concurrent assignments of moderate scope. Performs work which includes a variety of complex features such as unique operating conditions, conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials or methods, or difficult coordination requirements. Performs as a consultant in technical specialties to determine and assess technical and economic feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering solutions, as well as analysis of unusual operating conditions. Communicates with customers concerning needs and work status. Work generally requires a broad range of knowledge within the specific engineering discipline with expertise in numerous areas and general knowledge of other engineering disciplines.

Salary Information: 

T&D Asset Management Specialist - Exempt Pay Grade 14: $7,368 - $9,490 per month

Engineer Level I-Exempt Pay Grade 12: $5,777 - $7,297 per month

Engineer Level II-Exempt Pay Grade 13: $6,480 - $8,184 per month

Engineer Level III-Exempt Pay Grade 14: $7,368 - $9,490 per month

 

Travel Required:

Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska)  Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
