Electrical Building Maintenance Technician

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Electrical Building Maintenance Technician located at the York Operations Center in York, Nebraska. Position closes October 10, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. Central Time.
This position will report to the York Facility Services Supervisor.
Position Summary
The incumbent will perform safe and effective maintenance activities on heating, ventilating, air conditioning, (HVAC) systems and components, and electrical systems and components by performing predictive, preventive, periodic, planned, and corrective maintenance to ensure the reliable and safe operation of NPPD facilities. Additionally, the incumbent will be required to provide operation and maintenance of the plumbing, and fire protection, building, grounds, security, and all other equipment and systems associated with District facilities. This position also provides monitoring and setting of the Facility Management Systems and/or Energy Management Systems. Employees are required to work after hours, weekends and holidays on short notice, or in emergencies as necessary.
Incumbents must live within 30 minutes of their reporting location.
Education, Training and Experience
Two-year degree in Electrical Technology, Electromechanical Technology, or related field plus four years' experience as described below OR HS diploma/GED plus 12 years’ experience in the areas described below.
Journey Electrical license with the state of Nebraska is required for all employees, as noted below.
Experience in operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of VFD’s, uninterruptable power supplies (UPS) - 10kva and above, power distribution panels, transformers, lighting control systems, and associated electrical equipment that is 480v equipment and below. with building lighting, ballasts, bulbs, battery packs, etc.
Computer proficient with word documents and spreadsheets. Good verbal and written communication skills with customers and colleagues. Comfortable with changing priorities and responsibilities. Ability to organize multi-task and prioritize work.
Experience with computer - based building automation systems. Able to read electrical schematics and mechanical blueprints. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Licenses and/or Certifications
Journey Electrical license required.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Install, operate, maintain, program, modify, troubleshoot, and repair the building electrical systems including low voltage switchgear, switchgear trip devices, programmable logic controllers, motor control centers, diesel generators, panel boards, battery chargers and batteries, over current protection, grounding, and lightning protection. Ensure power quality to critical equipment. Keep systems up to date to ensure replacement parts are available.
Operate and carry out repairs on fire protection and alarm systems including wet and dry pipe systems, alarm panels, CO2 systems, pre-action systems, fire extinguishers, electronically addressable systems, and building components including fire walls, doors, dampers, etc. Maintain monthly, semi-annual, and annual inspections in accordance with NFPA standards and the authority having jurisdiction. Supervise and work with contractors during inspections and repairs and document work performed. Ensure buildings meet all life-safety codes (NFPA101).
Contact, coordinate, schedule and supervise diesel generator and switchgear maintenance/repair. Maintain fuel inventory systems, protective relaying, water, fuel, and oil treatment and testing as needed. Test emergency systems in accordance with NFPA standards and the authority having jurisdiction.
Operate, maintain, install and troubleshoot systems related to building plumbing and general maintenance. Includes general construction and repair, installation of fixtures, commercial water heaters, piping, etc. Occasionally contacting, coordinating, and supervising contractors performing similar activities.
Operate and maintain the Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) system and Power Distribution Unit (PDU). Perform first-response duties associated with UPS troubles and switching to ensure continual operation of critical systems. Assist with security system operation and maintenance.
Contact, coordinate, and supervise vendors, consultants, and contractors providing maintenance, construction, pest control, snow removal, etc. services to District facilities. Act as liaison between NPPD and service contractors. Includes inspection/approval of work and payment for services. Review maintenance plans and keep accurate records of maintenance activities, continuously review maintenance program to determine that tasks are necessary and value-adding. Review preventative maintenance schedules and performs scheduled preventative maintenance. Utilize SAP for performer functions. Repair, install and move furniture. Maintain facilities grounds, landscaping and snow removal.

In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range. Successful applicants will be provided more information regarding the incentive program at the time of an interview.
Pay Grade - 13
Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: $40.69 - $50.86 per hour
Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska) Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
